I was overjoyed when I found Publish America. No upfront money to pay was the best thing for me. My first disappointment was the one dollar that you get as a start up royalty payment.
They explained to me that the one dollar is a start up payment and will bring some exposure to my books. They never mention in the contract how much your book is going cost until it's published. 16.95 to 19.95 is rather high.
My first royalty check was over 20.00. I'm thinking that Publish America hasn't done a good job at all putting the word out about my book, but to no avail. It's not selling.
I was disappointed because when I promoted people were interested until they heard how much my books are.
I have websites, blogs, and use other networking techniques to get the word out about my books, but they are not sitting on a shelf in any bookstore or selling online because of the price.
I've even tried to get book announcements or interviews but certain companies won't touch it because of Publish America's bad reputation.
So far, every royalty payment except the first one that I have received I have never deposited into my account. These checks range from 2.00 to maybe 4.00. If I lived off of this as my salary or made my writing my career, I'd be homeless.
I know that I should've thought twice when I went with them to publish my 2nd book. But, because my novel is a 3 part series, I felt that I needed to use them again. And for what, another disappointment.
There's errors in both books that I have asked them to correct and they never did. I've read the horror stories about them and it prompted me to write them a concerned letter.
They assured me that I should not be believing everything that I read. They advised me to trust them. But, I don't feel that they are abiding by their own contract. My books will only sell if I buy them myself. I get several emails from them offering a special discount if I bought a bulk of my own books. What a joke that is!
Even though I feel like they have crushed me with my two novels, it's not going to stop me from writing. I want them to release me from my contracts and compensate me for the pain and suffering this has caused me.

does not even exist at the address that was given in the other report for this company which is2415 E 5th Ave Frederik MD 21705
I have lived in Frederick for years as a child and have been back for a few years
The first red flag for me
there is and never has been in Frederick a 5th AVE.
There is a 5th Street and it is run over with a bunch of drunks and drug addicts and drug dealers and has been for YEARS.
The second red flag is the fact that I have never known there to be a Publishers in that block or area for that matter.
This has to be a place ran from someone's house and in that area heaven help ya

Anonymous,
When I decided to get my books published I knew that I wasn't going to get rich quick doing it. I've done my research and have taken classes about writing and marketing.
My feelings about this company are valid and I stand behind whatever I say. Yes, I have gone out to try to get book signings scheduled only to be told that they don't do book signings for POD books. I wasn't aware of that. Had I known that I would've gone somewhere else to get my books published.
I gave Publish America a chance with my first book and took a risk with my second book spite the negative comments on the internet about the company. They sent me a reassurance letter that I believed only to be disappointed in the long run.
I have investigated how many books have been sold and they are jipping me out of my money. I know that I'm no famous Author yet, but I know when I'm being taken for a ride.
I was aware of the 1.00 royalty payment. But, it was explained to me that the payment was something to get my book off the ground and be noticed. This has been a learning process for me. So, I know the next time when I go to get my third book published.
Another thing, per line 9 of the contract, it states that the Publisher agrees to distribute and promote my book for purposes of publicity and/or review throughout the US and/or Canada. So, I know what they aren't doing.
PA requests that you send a list of errors that need to be corrected. I did that. Some of them were not corrected. So, I did my part at editing my book a number of times.
You are a successful Author and that's great. Next time, do research on the company before you pass judgement or criticize me. I'm trying to be successful too. And yes, I'm trying to turn my writing into a career. I know that it takes hard work. It's not .17 per book. It starts at .8 to 12.5. To sum it up, they are ripping me off!

***There's errors in both books that I have asked them to correct and they never did. I've read the horror stories about them and it prompted me to write them a concerned letter.***
First of all, it's your job to make sure you edit the book. Most authors take months, some even years to edit a novel. I also know that they have you look over your manuscripts before they send it into publication, so there was your second chance to fix the errors..
You heard horror stories about them or you went looking for horror stories about them? I am a proud successful published author and I can tell you that they have been nothing but wonderful throughout the entire process.
I also wanted to ask you what kind of advance were you looking to get when you signed your contract? You act so surprised, but it was mentioned before you got it. You are no J.K. Rowling, you have no experience regardless of how many books you have out. Has your book ever been reviewed by a professional source?
It sounds to me like you thought you would receive some big fat paycheck.. I hate to tell you, but it takes a lot more than an ISBN and a nice book cover to bring in the money. Try taking a few marketing classes..

Do the math

First of all if you read your contract you signed you would realize that PA does not do all of the work. It's also up to you! You get .17 per book that is sold and you get a royalty check for 20.00? Do the math.. the book sold..
How many interviews, book signings, and book readings did you do? How much effort did you put into your book? You realize that the average author does not make millions of dollars. You're expectations were way too high, and you are in the wrong line of business.
I don't see how this constitutes as a "RIP OFF". You received your royalty check, what more do you want?
