in april of 2007 i purchased a yorkie puppy from the puppy shoppe in edison, the second i bought her home she was coughing and wouldn't eat. i called the pet shop and they told me to bring the puppy back. when i returned her they refunded my money and said if i still wanted her i could purchase her after they get her checked by the vet.
i was in the pet shop every day twice a day for 3 weeks everytime it would get close they would tell me that the vet wanted to see her again and i would have to wait to bring her home. the week of easter i went in to see lexus whom i was very much attached to at this point, and she really looked like crap. they ended up taking her to the animal hospital and keeping her over night. well the next day i get a phone call saying lexus didn't make it. i cried for days i felt like i lost my child.
the owner of the pet shoppe said that they would find me another yorkie puppy no matter how long it takes. she also informed me that they would no longer be using that breeder and that they would have to find a new yorkie breeder. i ended up going back to the store a month later only for the owners to not even know who i was!!!! i was reading another report and noticed that they are still using the same breeder who is selling them sick dogs!!!!
my recommendation is to not got to this pet store cause the only thing that will happen is you will fall in love with that little face in the window and then have to deal with the pain of losing your forever friend. i still haven't gotten over my little angel lexus. i guess i am just lucky that i didn't have her at my home the 3 weeks!

All Pet Shops are Bad News

Plain and simple, a person looking for a puppy should NEVER buy one from a pet shop. Pet shops do not use responsible breeders. Responsible breeders take the time to place puppies in prescreened homes. They take the time to meet buyers face-to-face. They want to know who their puppies are going home with.
Responsible breeders also health test (not the same as genetic testing, so don't be fooled by that either). They check their breeding animals for conditions like joint problems, eye problems, liver problems, heart problems, and kidney problems. They show their breeding animals at dog shows to make sure they meet the breed standard prior to breeding them. They do not advertise teacup sizes or rare colors, and certainly don't sell these puppies for more money than dogs that meet the breed standard. They don't register with puppymill registries like APRI, Continental Kennel Club, or ACA. Responsible breeders register their puppies with the AKC, UKC, or FCI. They are members of the breed's parent club (with AKC, UKC, or FCI).
Also, responsible breeders rarely have more than two or possibly three breeds. It takes time to really learn each breed standard well enough to knowledgeably breed a dog. Breeders that have numerous breeds simply don't care about quality, only quantity.
If you truly want a healthy, happy family member, consider purchasing a puppy from a responsible breeder instead. They will be there for you if you have questions. They will be there for you if you have problems. They will be there for you for the life of the dog, and beyond. You won't find those puppies for sale in pet shops or online, but they are by far healthier and happier. Take the time to go to a local dog show and find a responsible breeder. You won't be disappointed.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience

Unfortunately, pet stores do often buy dogs from "puppy mills" although they may claim otherwise.
Here is a link from the Humane Society of the United States.
(((link redacted)))
Of course one of their recommendations, and in my opinion one of the best things you can do, is to adopt an animal from a shelter.
Hope this helps some people and again sorry about the loss of your pet, Lily.
