I purchased the furniture September 2011 at Rac Acceptance.. The store i originally purchased from closed down a month after purchase.... downhill from there when a new stire makes contact...... my furniture was stolen along with 58 other families, from a Public Storage Unit...

Rac employees and district manager have concocted several bogus excuses why my furnishing are not covered.. Ex ---- saying the insurance i purchased does not cover loss and it's only a waiver for replacement of furnishings.. Be very careful purchasing from this company,, the staff is rude, uncourteous and unfair,,,,in addition the pricing is absolutely outrageous.......unfortunately I have been forced to hire a attorney

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

RAC Benefits

AUTHOR: EX-RAC Manager - ()

POSTED: Monday, May 20, 2013

I have seen this many times when I worked for RAC.  They offer you the RAC Benefits as extra and it covers issues like this.  I have told so many customers about this and the ones that  did not listen to what I had to say said no and I told them what would happen if they did not have it.

They most always said they did not need it.  You more than likely are one of those people that said no and then want to blame the company.

I have been through that and even went to court about it and with the paperwork that was signed by the customer, the Judge didn't even take 10 minutes with it and threw it out.  The customer now has a judgment against them from the court and money taken out of their paycheck to pay back the agreement plus all the court costs that was in excess of $16,000.

So before you waste your money you may want to read your agreement over and check all your paperwork. Sorry for your loss but facts are facts.

I am not for RAC or against them as they have a comany that can help or hurt you. It is up to the customer to make sure they know what they are getting into.

I would not put myself in the situation where I would go to them as they are the most expensive route to getting furniture...I would go to Goodwill before RAC.

Waste of Money..

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Unfortunately I have been forced to hire a attorney
- If you are talking about the "Warranty" they sell you when you buy the furniture they are correct it generally only includes damages not theft.  So unless you have something in writing in that warranty that says anything different you are pretty much out of luck, and any money you pay an attorney probably would be better spent just throwing it out the window.  Now, if the warranty you have explicitly states in writing that theft is covered, take them to small claims court(without a lawyer). and it should be a slam dunk case.

Your rental agreement says you are responsible for the items.  So you need to come up with the money to pay them off...even if you no longer have them.  So if you do try to take them to court, they may decide to counter sue you for the entire amount.  Unfortunately...they would have the contract and law on their side and probably win.  The only advantage to this is that the court may negotiate a payment plan for you rather than making you pay it all at once.  So take this into consideration if your attorney tries to talk you into suing them.

And since I know you are probably thinking about this..the Storage agreement you signed states that the storage unit is not responsible for loss due to theft.  So unless you paid extra for their insurance(or have your own separate insurance) they are not responsible either.

If you don't want to believe me about any of this.  Go ahead and ask your attorney.  But also get a 2nd and 3rd opinion from other attorneys to see what they say.
