I went to Ashley Furniture Store to purchase furniture. I did not qualify for "traditional" financing but they had a company o. Site that would. This company is RAC Acceptance. I didn't think for one moment that they were actually Rent A Center. If I had know. I never would have done business with them. The payments were monthly I was under the impression that I was purchasing the furniture but it turns out that I was actually "renting" it. I made monthly payments on time until about August 2013 when I had a financial hardship. Through the daily harrassment I found out they were truly Rent A center.

And yes their representative even came to my job! I work nights so I sleep during the day. I woke up yesterday morning to police in my home with guns drawn! I was hysterical. Rent A Center lied in their documentation in order to obtain a court order for a "peaceful" entry. There was nothing peaceful about it! They have the curniture and are still suing me cor back payments, delivery fee, and the the price of the furniture! I am fighting this! But how much of a chance do I have at a  ounter suit? I was home alone when this happened and I am terrified to sleep alone in my own home. So yes Rent A Center can and will enter your home!

You really thought ol' Robert was employed?

AUTHOR: Louie_veee - ()

POSTED: Sunday, April 13, 2014

it's hilarious that you believed someone as angry and socially inept as Robert was employed. Really Robert should not be offended but thankful. I came here to read about RAC and have found Robert's well delivered insults on many different posts. In reality he seems like a bitter forty something year old with an internet connection. Robert, whats with all the anger and the need to have to disect people's complaints about a company you have nothing to do with? Instead of wasting your time looking to prove the inconsistencies and lies in people's stories you should join a dating site... or maybe the local community college's debate team...

Hi, I work with RAC Acceptance and I’m sorry to hear about your experience with us the past few months. You said that you were unaware that you were signing a rental agreement with RAC Acceptance. I’m not sure why this was not fully disclosed to you at the time of rental as we are required to be upfront and honest with all of customers about their contracts. I hope we can help answer any outstanding questions or concerns you might have. Please give us a call at 1-800-422-8186 as soon as possible. Thank you.

Just Looking For Similar Situations

AUTHOR: sbtraumatized - ()

POSTED: Saturday, November 16, 2013

I came to this forum to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. Imagine your wife, mother or daughter waking up to those circumstances, regardless. I had paid monthly on time for over a year and nothing was being paid but interest. So when they wouldn't work with me, yeah I was upset. So like I said, before paying this lawyer that says I have a case I have been looking to see if anyone has ever actually been successful. And while the police came in guns blazing...RAC employees were right behind them. Oh and did I mention because I was asleep I was not dressed. Alone undressed and all men staring and guns pointed at me has been extremely traumatizing for me. You don't think this is even remotely excessive for $800? Like I said thanks for the input I wasn't looking for snotty remarks, just looking to see if this has happened to anyone else.

BS and more BS...

Hmmmm why would someone current at that time say they aren't going to pay?

- Well, perhaps someone who all of the sudden just by a coincidence had a "financial hardship" the next month.  By the way you want to doubt the accuracy of my "fill in".  I gave very specific ideas of what may have happened.  How come you didn't dispute a single thing I stated that probably happened between August and November?   The only thing you did was mention a statement you suposedly made..a month before you stopped paying.

I can just about guarantee you that they did not get a court order based on that one statement.  Even without that statement they have 3 months of NON-PAYMENT to use as justification why they should reposess the furniture.

You must be some idiot that works for RAC and has nothing better to do

- Oh yea that's it.  Sorry to burst your bubble but I do not now or have I ever worked for Rent-a-center.

I have a lawyer involved and I do have a case because what occurred was excessive and not legal.

- Amazing how the more people talk the more they just keep digging a deeper hole.  You do not have a lawyer..oh and how do I know.  Well in your original report you are asking how much of a chance you have in a counter suit.  Well if you had a real lawyer..the lawyer would tell you.  You would not have to come to some public internet site to ask your legal questions.

Next, if you can't even afford your payments why would any lawyer expect you would pay them?  Or are you going to say that you have found the worlds best lawyer who thought your case was just so compelling that they are going to take on this company free of charge?

But you know..let's just for the heck of it say you do have a lawyer.  What is the lawyer suing them for on your behalf?  That is on what legal specific legal grounds is he suing them, and how much in damages are you claiming.

By the way..just one final thought for you.  It wasn't a Rent a Center employee who came into your house with guns drawn.  Perhaps you should be going after the police for their excessive force.

Valid Complaint

AUTHOR: sbtraumatized - ()

POSTED: Saturday, November 16, 2013

Well let's see how accurate you are with your fill ins. They lied in their documents saying that they had spoken to me in July...which I was still current mind you in july. In their report they stated at that time I told them I wasn't going to pay. Which is 100% false because they received a payment that month. The same documentation says I did not become deliquent until the end of august. Hmmmm why would someone current at that time say they aren't going to pay? You must be some idiot that works for RAC and has nothing better to do. Oh wait you do. Harrassing people. This company was dishonest from go. Look around. They are predators. I have a lawyer involved and I do have a case because what occurred was excessive and not legal. Thank you for your input.

Countersuit????

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Saturday, November 16, 2013

If you think you have any grounds for a "countersuit", it is really no wonder why you didn't qualify for "traditional" financing.

You like most people leave out things that don't make you looking so good.  So let's see if we can fill that in shall we.  You became delinquent in August 2013.  Now, from Aug 2013 to Nov 2013 there is not a single mention of you making good on the back payments.  There is not a single mention of you just telling them...you know I can't afford it so come and pick it up.  Nope...only talk about them coming to your work.  Gee..to collect the past due perhaps?  You don't work 7 days a week 24 hours a day.  I am sure in that 3 month period there was at least one or two days you could have arranged to have the items picked up.

Nothing in your agreement said you only had to pay when you could now did it..NOPE.  So exactly how did they lie to the police?  Did they say you didn't make your payments and you did?  Or let me guess..they said that you were unwilling to work with them.  But you wanted to work with them but wanted to do this by paying what YOU think is reasonable perhaps $5 a week on your back payments, or perhaps you just wanted them to "forget" about the late payments and let you just pay them the regular payment from now on.

The fact is that this got to the point where they got the COURTS involoved to get a court order to have law enforement enter your house and take back the items that you had not paid for.  Which means there is a lot more to this story and it probably doesn't put you in a good light.
