My father passed away 6 years ago and left me the trustee of his estate. I shared the house with him. I currently live in the home. He took out a 2nd mortgage on the home for $17000. I was making the payments on the loan since his death. I got a modification on the 1st mortgage. I wanted to get a loan modification on the 2nd mortgage. I called Wells Fargo to get information on it. I was informed that I could not modify the 2nd mortgage, due to I was not the original borrower on the loan.
I’m on Social Security Disability due to I had cancer. I did not know what to do. I thought I would get legal help. I searched the internet and made an inquiry with RELC. A couple of days later a gentleman called me to set up an appointment at their office. I said that I would think about it.
Then the next day a lady by the name of Monica Davis called me to get me into the office. She said the bank broke the law in not letting me get a loan modification. And that the attorney she works with wanted to sue Wells Fargo Bank for damages by not following state regulations. She said that the law suit was going to be for $50,000 in damages. All I had to do was come to the office and come to an interview
Well I thought this is great, the bank broke the law and I was going to have legal representation. After the interview, I thought I would meet the lawyer. I was in formed the lawyer would be assigned to my case after I except there terms and pay $3000 for a retainer and after 60 days a $495 per month maintenance fee.
During the interview I keep asking if I should stay current with the 2nd mortgage. I was informed that they were not allowed to tell me this information, but that normally a client will get better results if they let the account go missing payments showing that I am in destress. I thought that we were suing for damages from breaking the law, not letting the account go under and try to get a modification.
Well against my better judgement I had paid RELC $3000 on my credit card and signed all the forms.
I was told by Monica that if ever I have any questions that I can call anytime. That evening I got a e-mail that the lawyer excepted my case and got an accelerated packet they call it. It has to contain all your paycheck stubs, bank records, a hardship letter, tax returns for 2 years and monthly expenses.
I was overwhelmed that weekend filling out paperwork except for the electric bill. I finished it by the end of the weekend. But I had a terrible feeling that I made a mistake. I called Monica on Monday and was in a panic that why should I not pay this loan? Any she informed me that we already talked about it and that I will have a better outcome with the case if I missed the payments, but it was up to me what I did. By Monday evening I sent in the paperwork by email. I called her office again on Tuesday and said I was so worried that if I missed a payment that the bank would take a lean on the house. I explained that I wanted to keep the house forever. Then I was informed that we were doing a modification. Wait I thought we were doing a lawsuit against the bank for breaking the law? I ask her. She said that we were doing that also and that she is very busy and that I should just relax and let her do her thing.
I thought I was going to hear from a attorney in a couple of days. I never heard from an attorney, but I did get another email from the office saying that an attorney accepted my case. I was feeling really nervous and uncomfortable about my decision on hiring this firm.
I had told my sister that I hired an attorney for the matter and she asked me if I did any research on them. I had told her I got information from the internet. Then I started doing research on them. I also called the bank and asked again to speak to someone about the loan. I was now informed that the loan would be converted into a 20 year loans with payments at $120 per month. I called Monica and told her about this. She informed me that they just said that and that they probable knew that that I had an attorney on the case. I thought an attorney? What attorney? I have never met an attorney.
Then I saw the complaints against the law firm. I called the office to ask for a refund. They informed me that they will let me know in a few days. I called the credit card company and canceled the credit card they had on file. I feel robbed and cheated out of $3000. Its going to take me months if not a few years to pay it off if I do not get a refund.
And the complaints I have read about this firm. What an a*****e I was in hiring them. I feel so bad spending money to save my house hiring these crooks.
