Rite-Rug Shoddy Work and Long Delays Columbus Ohio

I also had a very horrible experience with Rite-Rug on W. Broad Street in Columbus, OH. They sent out installers to install the carpet about a week or so after I picked out a "high-end" living room carpet. After the installers left, I was furious at the huge messes they left behind as well as the very visible seam that looked as though someone cut a 1 inch gap straight down the middle of my living room. Each time I called the store or customer service, they told me I had to wait a week for an available installer to come out and fix it. They sent someone out to repair it a week after the original installation, but it ended up looking worse. I called customer service back and reported the problem. The woman said I would have to wait at least a week before they could send someone else back out. I waited almost two weeks. They sent someone out again. I wasn't pleased with the results, but the carpet installer said it would take about a week for the seam to fade and disappear. I was hesitant to believe him since the seam was very noticeable. I called the store manager and he said that the carpet was very high end and should not show seams like some other lesser grade carpets. However, he said to give it a week to see what happens. I waited 5 days and couldn't stand it any longer. I took about 20 pictures, posted them on the web and asked others if this was "normal." The response was overwhelming and I must have recieved over 100 emails from people reporting that this was definitely one of the worst carpet laying jobs ever seen. I called back Rite Rug customer service and they said I would have to wait for another week or so before someone could come out to examine it. I was furious, but the woman didn't care and said they get reports like this all the time and that my complaint could not be escalated above any of the other complaints that they were trying to resolve. I was irate and reported this to the better business bureau. Rite-rug called me back later and said they would send a professional to my home this time to repair. What? I thought they only used "professionals?" This professional came out and said he would have to rip up the entire room and start over. He did a much better job but after leaving, I wasn't too pleased to find out that they had swapped out the original carpet with a lesser quality brand and style! And it was done without telling me! The seam was fixed, but to this day I will never recommend Rite-Rug to anyone. I have told so many people the story since this event occured and haven't forgotten it since. By the way, this all happened 2.5 years ago and I'm still upset, especially since my "high-end carpet" already needs replaced!

Don't use Rite-Rug. Not now. Not ever.
