I had vibrations coming from my tires after 1 month of use. I took my vehicle to a shop who checked everything. Told me it had to be the tires. I took the vehicle to Sears who rebalanced my tires.

A few weeks later the tires again started vibrating. I again took the vehicle back to Sears this time asking for new tires. I was told the vibration was not the tires. I asked Sears manager to test them and he would not rebalance or align the car.

I was offerd 10 % of the value of the tires. Sears did not honor the warranty. Any other company would have. Why does Sears get away with these tactics?

#7 UPDATE EX-employee responds

information is vague

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 03, 2007

first off im no fan of sears. they treat employees awful. i managed an autocenter for them for 14yrs. there could be a lot of problems causing your viberation including bad tires. a bent rim happens all the time especially on small cars. tire not balanced properly i had that problem with wallmart tires i finally had to show the tech how to do it after the third visit. an alignment will not cause a viberation dont let any body tell you different. the one thing you said was about the 1000 dollar repair to the rear wheel bearings caused by bad tires.

whoever told you that needs be out of the business now way are they related that is not possable. with some more info (what kind of car, what brand of tire, details of viberation does it do it all the time at speed, when braking) your problem can be figured out. you do have recourse. if the problem is determined to be a bad tire they have no choise , next step sears consumer complaint ask for the 800 number golden oppertunitys. manufacturers complaint dept etc. if you have a problem with that store try another one the all honer the warranty s

3 other shops have verified the tires as defective.

AUTHOR: Shannon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 27, 2007

Sears still refuses to replace my tires.

This matter is not closed. I have taken my vehicle to three different shops. One of which has done 1000.00 dollars worth of work on my vehicle to fix a rear axile bearing problem that was caused by the bad tires Sears sold me. If necessar I will get a letter from all three shops stating the tires are the problem.

#2 Consumer Comment

I'm Confuzed

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

You state you bought the tires from sears. You don't state if you also bought an alignment at the same time. It's not gonna do a whole lot of good to rebalance the tires every couple of weeks if they are out of alignment. IF you did pay for an alignment at the same time you bought the tires, THAT work should be covered under the warranty. If anything else needs to be done, you need to pay. I wonder how many people go in to get new tires and decline the alignment after being told they need one. I sure wouldn't go to sears for that work.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Why don't you look up 'cartalk' on the web?

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 30, 2007

You can post your vibration question there. Maybe Click & Clack (Tom & Ray) will respond. Or call Tom & Ray during their Sat 10 AM NPR 'cartalk' call-in show.

A tire CAN be out of round but usually the resulting vibration can NEVER be balanced out. A belt seperation or misorientation can cause interesting problems as the tire deteriorates in use, but this would be unusual (not impossible) in a new tire. Overinflated tires will suffer tread bruises while underinflated tires will suffer sidewall bruises/pinches. But one month is a very short time unless you are very hard on your tires, i.e. screech them in turns or sudden starts/stops, drive fast thru potholes, etc.

A bent or slightly wobbling wheel (curb 'rubs' cause wobbling wheels) can also cause a recurring vibration problem that can be temporarily balanced, but any out-of-round or wobbling problems, either with a wheel or a tire tread, should be obvious on the balancing machine.

Who made those tires for Sears? Sears sells Michelin, Goodyear, Goodrich (I think), etc. Maybe you should contact the tire manufacturer for guidance. Personally, I only use Michelin and Goodyear tires.
