 I agree with all of the Ripoff Reports I have read recently regarding Shaw Carpet. I only wish I'd read them sooner. I have just had a similar experience of the carpet crushing and matting after about a year and a half after installation. I complained to the Better Business Bureau in their area.The company sent an inspector who said it was dirty as a result of improper extraction of soap/water during the previous two cleanings. They would not address the crushing and matting issue, saying it is not covered by the warranty. The ten year wear warranty. That they heavily advertise.

The store where I bought the carpet sent their own carpet cleaner to shampoo the carpet and said it was dirty. He actually agreed that there are still lines in it, that it still looks flat. He suggested buying a carpet rake to use on the carpet. I have done this and it doesn't really help.

When I first got the carpet, I also bought a new vacuum. I was really happy with the vacuum, seeing that it got out so much dirt in just one room. Well, it was only later that I realized that the "dirt" being sucked up was actually a great number of carpet fibers! I have tried and tried to figure out what the difference is between the areas not walked on, like under the coffee table, near the baseboards, in some closets, and the flattened areas. What it seems to be is that they will not stand up any more, seem thinner, and the ends are very fuzzy. And, of course, not covered by the warranty.

Of the complaints I've read, the common denominators are that there is a great deal of crushing, flattening, matting, and that Shaw blames the consumer for what are clearly defects in the carpet, no matter the alleged quality or price.

I don't know what governmental agencies there are that might regulate such bad practices perpetrated on an unsuspecting and gullible public, but I intend to find out.
