About a year ago I received an offer in the mail promoting Skybeam and it's internet services as well as it's VOIP services. I called Skybeam and signed up for what they offered, referred to as, The Pro Bundle. This package guarnteed a minimum internet speed of 2.5 mbps (mega bytes per second) download as well as the voip service which basically is the phone over the internet. Well, during this past year my services barely work. I get internet access on a very limited basis and when I do get it it's very slow. Average speeds are no more than 0.5 mbps (half a meg) and that's using Skybeam's own speed test site (www.skybeam.com/test). My voip services are completely non-functional. I use to get slight usage from the phone but none at all for over the past three months. I've called them repeatedly and spoke with them at least 30 times. All of which have taken me at least 45 minutes to an hour to just get a person on the phone. They constantly trouble shoot everything and make whatever changes they claim to make but ultimately it's the same thing, bad to no service at all! After having service tech's come out to the house over 6 times and tell me one story after another I'm finally told it's the tower. The last service tech to come out (Thomas) all but laughed and said there was no better than what I had. He stated that they were aware that the tower was faulty and was due to be upgraded in October from a 54 to a 57. Back in April I was told that there was a noise issue at the tower and that upgrades were being done and that it would be fine in July! One lie after another! To make it worse there is no other service provider to switch to in this area otherwise I'd have dropped Skybeam and all their lies! How a company can get away with this is beyond me...

We live in the country also and have limited choices for internet. We signed up with Skybeam and did not have service for the first three weeks after we signed up and had the equipment installed. There was bad weather in the area when we first got hooked up, and so we called and called and could only get a recording telling us to leave a message and someone would call us back. Or we were on HOLD for over 20 minutes at a time. The problem was not fixed and we were told that the high winds had "taken the tower out" and we should have service in a few days. My husband works from home so it was vital that he be able to access the internet for his employment. Finally after two other technicians had been out to our place, the third guy said the same thing that you reported, that the installer had pointed the receiver in the wrong direction and through the trees! Once he aimed in the proper direction, we have had service, slow service, but service. It is hit or miss if the pages will load, and our connection is so very slow. I am going to take your recommendation and seek other providers. Thank you for naming an alternate provider.

Termination Of Service

I have finally had enough! After over a year of "NO" service I finally called and terminated my service with Skybeam! My problem is that I live out in the country and it's quite hard to get any kind of internet service at all so I was really hopeful that Skybeam would get it together but it just never happened. I finally had enough and looked around and came up with a company called SPEEDNET. The very day I called them they had a technician come out and provide a 'line of service' inspection. I was told that there wouldn't be any problem and that the install could also be done and within the hour I went from no service with Skybeam to excellent service with SPEEDNET. The technician explained to me that the problem Skybeam was having was that they set their dish up pointing right through the trees which most likely was what was causing the signal failure! Something as simple as that and to think, Skybeam sent technicians out over a handful of times. A real shame that Skybeam has such incompetent technicians! At any rate, I'm quite satisfied with SPEEDNET and their service so far. Now to figure out a way to get Skybeam to come out and pick up their junk!
To anyone out there reading this, BEWARE, Skybeam is a joke! Not only will they lie to you, they will fraud you, avoid you and gladly charge you for a service they can't and don't provide! Now to contact the Better Business Bureau.

Web Response

Thank you for your response and for responding so quickly. A shame though that it has to come via this portal. As you have stated, I have gone to the website and filled out the complaint form now several times. Not once have I ever received a response from anyone at Skybeam. To make matters worse I even went a step further and sent several emails to Skybeam and none of those have ever been answered. And to top that off I have called dozens of times and asked to have someone "in charge" call me to help me resolve this situation. Again, not even a returned phone call. (Last manager that was suppose to call me back was Bruce, who obviously never called back either). It shocks me that a company as big as Skybeam (and getting bigger by all of it's recent acquisitions) can't even take the time to resolve such a simple issue as this. I wonder just how much business Skybeam loses because of this! A real shame because what Skybeam claims to provide would be wonderful if it could just provide what it claims. A service company without service is no company at all!
