I was once very happy with Sling Media.  They helped me set up both my computers to use my Slingbox via phone support.  I didn't know that they stop caring after 90 days. The hardware has a 1 year warranty.  Support only lasts 90 days.

So this is how they are screwing people across the country.  They continue to put updates out for their software.  Installing these updates will cause your computer to stop working with your Slingbox.  You need to have networking knowledge to fix these issues.

If you call them to get help with the problem they caused, and you have had your Slingbox for more than 90 days, they will refuse to tell you anything.  Unless you pay them $29.99 for a one time chat with tech support.  You can plead all you want but all they do is refer your to their website FAQ unless you cough up the money.

This is the second update I've had and luckily I was still covered when the first one came out.  So they continue to put these updates out that cause people without advance tech knowledge to seek help.  They charge for help, so by putting the updates out they are in fact profiting from much needed technical support for their customers.

All I wanted was for my Slingbox to work but I refuse to pay more than 15% of the price of the Slingbox just to fix it once, especially since it was caused by a software update and I know there will be more updates to come.  You have to wonder if these updates are being put out for profit? RIP-OFF
