Sometimes you just have to speak up to the monopolies that control our utilities and therfore our lives.About 9 days ago our phone system (landline) suddenly quit providing any caller i.d.It was a voice, caller i.d. system and suddenly all it would do is print on the screen 'incoming call'. Like all of you we get a ton of spam type calls and also have people we'd rather not talk to.    I phoned Spectrum, our provider, and was told that our caller i.d. was indeed turned on and that the problem had to be on our end of things. We had little choice then but to believe them and so then set about to rechecking all our phone settings, unplug the 3 units

plug them back in, buy new batteries, recharge them for 7 hours and retry. All to no avail.

Then we bought a new phone system which we recieved today. Did it work? No, same problem. It just says 'incoming call' and nothing else.

I called 'Spectrum' again and spoke with a young man who totally agreed with me that it had to be on their end and not mine.

I won't mention his name here because I honestly don't trust Spectrum to not punish him in some way even though he was helpful, knowlegable, and in every way proffesional.

At this point I had spent 4 days  and more money than we can afford to try to fix this problem.

When I told this gentlemans supervisor named Jacob That I expected his company to reimburse us for the cost of the new phones, I was told that it was against policy. He said it was also 'against policy' for him to tell me his full name. You know that when this person is talking to a big money client he doesn't say " I'm so sorry Mr. Big Bucks but I can't reveal my full name to you". Thats ludicrous.

Anyway, after 4 staight days of my time, and money we could not afford to spend  to replace the phone system,I was told that there would be no compensation for my time and money.

We have been customers of Spectrum for well over a decade, never once even late on on a payment, and yet I was treated like I was nothing more than a nuisance.

We are talking about $51.16 here. Compare that to the thousands of dollars we have paid them over the last 10 years.

I fully expect that when 'Jacob' at Spectrum reads this he will try to retaliate against us by either cutting our service or who knows. Should that happen I will for sure leave an update here. They seem to think that they can do anything they want. Thats why i say 'do not do business with these arrogant people if you have choice.

 Thanks for listening.

Spectrum dirty deeds

AUTHOR: Kevin - (United States)

POSTED: Saturday, July 22, 2023

I believe that I said in my previous post that I would not be surprised if rectum, I mean spectrum retaliated against me in some way.

Well, saturday evening our landline phone and our internet suddenly went out. Both controlled by spectrum.

Leaving us without a landline or of course any internet access.

I called them to complain, was passed around to a half dozen different employees for a good half hour.

In the twelve years we have been their customers we have never once even been late on a single bill.

Also in twelve years we have never once had our phone and our computer go out at the same time.

Eventually it was fixed, but only after much angst and much b.s. on their part. I told them the first name of the supervisor who initially told me that my time trying to fix what was their error, was worth nothing.

Since this fiasco happened to us, I have done a little researc and lo and behold, spectrum seems to have been involded in hundreds and hundreds of lawsuits. Hmm, imagine that. Including one where the payed 7 billion dollars in a case where they forged documents in a murder case.

If you think you want to give these people your money, go for it. But at least google 'spectrum lawsuits first.

                           K

the facts

AUTHOR: Kevin - (United States)

POSTED: Friday, July 21, 2023

The facts are as follows... Spectrum initially told us that the problem was caused by our phone system and any fault on their end. That is why we took the time to recheck all of the phones settings. Should I not have believed them Irv? Is that what your telling me? The reason we bought a new phone system is BECAUSE spectrum insisted that the fault was our equipment. Tell me Irv, what you would have done in that case.

When they finally sent a technician to our home, he discovered that the whole problem was caused by a malfunctioning modem which was THEIR equipment, not ours. He removed the faulty modem which was apparently not even necessary because they actually installed two modems instead of just one. He totally admitted to us that spectrum was at fault, but I guess your telling me that it was still somehow my fault. Interesting. You seem like a very angry person.  I fail to see how we did anything wrong, but I'm quite sure that you will enlighten me

To my friend IRV

AUTHOR: Kevin - (United States)

POSTED: Friday, July 21, 2023

    Hi there IRV,

I find it very odd that you would decide to add your two cents worth of (logic? ) commentary about something you know absolutely nothing about. Has it occured to you IRV, that your mom would like you to move out of her basement, or at least pay part of the internet bill?

Your comments literally make no sense at all.

Of course I rechecked the settings on our phones, of course I replaced the batteries. re-charged them, unplugged the base unit and all the other handsets IRV, because that is how one determines whether the problem is with our equipment or whether its the fault of the phone provider.

Before I could know if the problem was on my end or on spectrums end, I did due diligence before I contacted them for the second time.

They then IRV, agreed with me that the fault was theirs. Their was no question about that my friend. After I had bought a new phone system because they insisted that the problem was with our equipment.

That is why we bought a new phone system IRV.

Tell me, what would you have done, huh?

You seem to have a pretty strong opinion about a case that you not only know nothing about, but you didn't even seem to comprehend my original statement.

I find it extremely odd that you would have such a vehement opinion about something you have absolutely zero comprehension of.

Oh, by the way IRV, Iv'e never heard of you before, I don't know you, so of course I never accused you of working for spectrum. Thats pretty silly.

Me thinks thou dost protest too much.

I think I hear your mom calling you from the top of the stairs IRV. Apparently your macaroni and cheese is done.

Ridiculous

AUTHOR: Irv - (United States)

POSTED: Friday, July 21, 2023

As per YOUR OWN ADMISSION...you double checked to make sure the caller ID function was programmed into the system correctly. As per YOUR OWN ADMISSION...you said it had been programmed correctly. Call ID information still did not show up. Since it was programmed correctly, why on earth would you buy a new phone ON YOUR OWN ACCORD? No. They aren't liable for what YOU did on your own, nor for the time YOU volunteered to WASTE to WASTE THE MONEY! Secondly, many callers DISABLE Caller ID from being seen such as bill collectors. Oh by the way, let me save you the effort. Don't bother responding with something stupid like "You must work for them." I'll tell you ahead of time. I DO NOT!
