I had no idea that I was signing up for a monthly service charge for their program when I bought postage from them in December of 2011.
I contacted three representatives at their company by telephone on 03/09/2012. The first representative hung up on me (Melissa) after I told her I wanted to cancel my service. I called back and talked to another said that she could not can cancel my account and sent me to her Supervisor (Dana). I explained to Dana that I had no idea there was a monthly service fee to use their service, and that I wanted a complete refund of all fees taken on my credit card they have on file.
Dana explained to me that she could refund the current service fee of $15.95, but had no authority to refund the past months fee that was taken against my card. Dana Responded back to me about how it was my fault for not realizing that there was a monthly service fee and STAMPS.COM does not just charge customers credit cards without customers
permission.
I brought to Dana's attention the amount of complaints at the Better Business Bureau regarding billing issues, and she dismissed it as if hundreds of customers are as stupid as I am for complaining about their business practices. I told her that I was going to purse other remedies to have this company refund the past service fees and ended the conversation.
This company is setting its self up for a class actions lawsuit, and other legal actions. There are thousands of complaints against this company. They charge customers credit cards without their knowledge or permission, and when you contact them and complain, they make it very difficult to cancel your account, and they refuse to return the monthly service fees they charge without your permission just for the privilege to buy postage from them.
Worst company I have ever come in contact with. Stay FAR FAR Away!

Wow!

No, it is quite ignorant on your part to have responded to the offer 6 months ago without reading and understanding the terms and conditions.
As a general rule, EVERY "free trial offer" will state, in the terms and conditions of the offer, that if you don't cancel the membership BEFORE the end of the specified amount of time, you authorize the merchant to charge the membership fee to the payment method provided. That's why they required you to enter your credit card information before allowing you to sign up for the trial.
Of course, the burning question is: how did you not realize they were charging you this monthly fee? It is your responsibility to review your bank and credit card statements monthly, that's why the banks send them out. I check my accounts online daily.

read/comprehend the Terms of Use on the site.
I'm not the one here that failed to read before signing up...right? How does that make ME the moron? Did it really take you from December 2011 to March 2012 to figure out you were being charged monthly?
Good luck with your "class action lawsuit"...maybe there are more, like you, who don't read the terms of offers.
Class action lawsuits earn millions for the lawyers and a coupon for a free small fries at McDonald's.
I have been accused of working/shilling for well over 3 dozen companies by those who have no further cogent argument.
I have been happily retired for awhile and never worked for ANY of those companies.

Calling me a "Moron", and questioning my ability to read the details regarding an offer I responded to six months ago on STAMPS.COM is quite ignorant on your part.
You obviously have nothing better to do with your life other than make stupid comments on Ripoff Report, or as I suspect, you work for Stamps.com. as you know an awful lot about their terms of service.
Stop embarrassing yourself and get a life you "Moron".

You will find that there is nothing to sue them for, they have done nothing wrong. At some point everyone learns about 'free trial offers' either by reading the T&Cs or the way you are learning. After that, you will never sign up for anything again without reading what you are agreeing to.
consider this a learning experience. It seems harsh and unreasonable right now but I expect it will not happen to you again.
How can you claim they stole from you if you agreed to the terms?
I do NOT work for them, I'm just a person who learned the hard way a long time ago and never forgot.

That pesky trial offer again.

This is exactly why I don't even bother signing up for trial offers unless I know it something I will like anyway. Any time you see the words "trial offer" that should automatically set off an alarm telling you to look for the monthly fees. If it was free, why would they bother with any trial offers?
Though his wording can be a bit abrasive at times, I do have to agree with Ken on this one. It is up to the party agreeing to the terms and conditions to actually read them first. YOU must read before you sign up. Some where in those terms you agreed to, it should disclose how much the monthly membership fee is.
I admit that I don't know a whole lot about this particular service as I've never used it before. I do know that anyone with half a brain and word processor on their computer can make shipping labels. I also know that the post office sells stamps. You can even buy those online at the USPS website and have them delivered right to your door. Or, if it's a package, you take the package to the counter at the post office and pay for it there.

How STUPID can one person be?....Just in case this escapes you, it IS YOU that is so stupid.
Several opportunities to read what you are marking you agree to and YOU deny that you're such a moron.
I predict, something similar to this will continue to happen to you and file more Ripoff Reports in the future.

Eric,
I have received nothing but canned responses from you and your customer service department when you were charging me a monthly continuation program for $15.95 for the privilege of buying postage from you company without my permission.
There are hundreds of billing complaints all over the internet regarding the same complaint I have with stamps.com. Its the same response I received here, from the Better Business Bureau, and your customer service department who refused to do anything for me after hanging up on me after I told them I did not want to be charged for your service and wanted my money back.

Hi Thomas,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback about your experience with Stamps.com.
Stamps.com offers a four week no-risk trial so that you may use our online postage service and determine if the service fits your mailing and shipping needs.
If you do not like the Stamps.com service, you may cancel at any time during the four week trial period and you will not be charged any subscription fee for using the service. However if you do not cancel the Stamps.com service and go past your four week trial period, you will be charged $15.99 for using the service during that first "trial" month. After you pass the four week trial period and become a regular customer, you will be charged $15.99 each month moving forward. You may cancel at anytime -- there is no long term agreement.
During the registration process for Stamps.com and before a customer's account has been created (on the page called Postage Account Credit Card Authentication), all prospective customers will see the following text:
Why do you need my credit card information?
Your credit card is required by the USPS to set up your USPS postage account. Your credit card will not be charged unless you buy additional postage or Stamps.com products, or if you continue past the NO-RISK 4-week trial period.
We provide and disclose terms that we do expect all potential customers to read, review, and agree to before they create their accounts. Accounts cannot be created without customers indicating that they have read the terms by clicking on the I Agree box.
It sounds like you did call our Customer Support team to cancel the service on 3/9/2012 but encountered a few transfers, which should not have happened. Stamps.com records all Customer Support calls for quality and we will immediately investigate this call. The behavior you describe is completely unacceptable and we would like to apologize for the bad experience you encountered.
Any information you can send me to help investigate this issue would be much appreciated. Please e-mail us your full name and phone number to social@stamps.com?
Thanks!
Eric
