I returned 25 HP ink cartridges to Staples in Bayshore, NY in the month of April 2011. In May I received an e-mail telling me that my rewards were ready. When clicking their link, I was taken to a page that says "timed out". This happens every time I try to redeem my rewards, day or night. Apparently that is what the link is supposed to say. When I do manage to log in, my "rewards" total a big fat zero. In addition to being rip-off artists, I wonder what Staples is doing with all those ink cartridges?

Staples Phony Rewards

Nonsense! The time out page shows up no matter WHAT computer I use, even the one at the library. In calling Staples by phone I was informed that I have NO rewards coming to me. Even going to the store in person verified that I have no rewards, yet I still get e-mails telling me to redeem them. From now on, I'll just throw my ink cartridges away and buy my future supplies at Office Depot!

Help is out there

The issue with getting the "Time Out" page is more likely residing on your computer, and more specifically in your temporary internet files. A disk cleanup can help remove your current cookies, which may resolve this issue.

However, Staples offers many ways to contact them. Have you first tried contacting your local store's management? They should be able to either help, or put you in the right direction in getting help. There is also Staples' support number, 1-800-782-7537. There could be an issue with your information for the Rewards account, and can be corrected by calling them. A quick Google search found their contact page, http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/programs/customerservice/contact.html. I'd recommend following one of these steps to resolve the issue, which will be painless no matter which option you choose.

As for the recycled printer cartridges. You must realize Staples is offering rewards back for each cartridge ($2), and must sort, pack, and ship the cartridges at their cost as well. The company actually loses money recycling cartridges, but has been publicly praised for their recycling programs, which includes batteries, computers, monitors, small televisions, and printers.

Please try to resolve any issues with a company before filing a Rip-Off Report. This is misleading and unfair, as they have not had the chance to resolve the issue.
