My story is quite similar to others posted on ripoffreport.com concerning the company Superior Lamp. I was looking for a job where I'd be able to work at home being a customer sales/service representative. I applied for the outside sales position Superior Lamp offered and within a week a woman named Jennifer Warner replied to my e-mail and called my house asking when I could set up an interview. I set one up, and the next day I told my boss I had to leave work early for an appointment. I called the number and the extension for someone named Kelly who I was scheduled to have the interview with over the phone. I was put on hold and a man named Tom answered the phone saying Kelly lost her voice, so I would have to be interviewed by him (Tom). He asked me very little about myself, all of his replies to what I had said sounded very unoriginal and meaningless. He then read from a script what happens in the first 90 days of working with them, most of the information is on the website that they sent me a link to with a generic username and password that they provided for me prior to any interviewing. Everything Tom told me was comparable to the sound of someone trying to just make a quick sale.

At the time I was confident that they were a reputable company based on what the Better Business Bureau says about them, though I was very wrong. After telling Tom I was interested and wanted the job, he switched me to Jennifer who I was supposed to give my card information to over the phone to make the $399 payment to for the training and initial commitment. So I did this, and she said I would receive a few forms via e-mail that I needed to fill out and send back to her as soon as possible.

After sitting and realizing what I had just done I called Jennifer back and said I got her e-mail with the attached documents, which I had not filled out or sent back to her yet. -One document was an application requiring me to fill in things like my name, address, social security number, the usual stuff that goes on any standard application prior to being hired. The other document which I had not even looked at yet was a Reimbursement gurantee asking for my permission and signature to authorize Superior Lamp to deduct the $399 dollars from my credit card. (Keep in mind none of that was ever filled out or sent back to them)

So after telling Jennifer I had received those, I told her I wanted to tell my current boss I have a job lined up and see if he had anything better to offer me before a make a final decision, that way I would have the weekend to think about it, and then I'd give them a call monday and tell them the news. Until then I wanted them to reverse the transaction I had just made over the phone. Jennifer told me she had no control over that and did not know what kind of agreement I had made with Tom, so she would have to switch me over to him to talk about it.

I told Tom about my situation and said I wanted my money refunded. He told me he was confident that I could do this and that if I follow their proven way to make sales I would be making a LOT of money atleast $50,000 to $70,000 the first year. I told him I was excited about that, but I wanted to talk to my boss and think about it over the weekend, and have my $399 transaction refunded until my final decision was made. He would not accept this, and told me "the girls who take care of the transactions have just left for the day" he then urged me on more about the position and told me to have a good day.

I then thought that what he had told me didn't make sense, Jennifer is the woman who I gave my card information to and did the transaction with, not anyone else. I called my bank and asked if they could cancel the transaction for me but they couldn't and said they would only be able to dispute it after the transcation has been processed fully.

Now I was really worried that I had lost a nice chunk of money so I decided to call Jennifer back. I did and I told her my money MUST be refunded, and she quickly switched me over to Tom again saying if I had any questions I would have to ask him. I told Tom I needed the money refunded and I wanted a confirmation of it. He sounded mad now and told me he didn't think the job is for me and would talk to the girls tommorow in the morning. So I said to Tom, "Will my money be refunded?" he would not give me a straight answer and told me to call him around 10:00 in the morning. I asked him again, "Will my money be refunded and will I receive confirmation of it?" He then said to me "call around 10 and you'll get confirmation" and so I said "I'll get confirmation that my money is refunded, correct?"
He said "We don't want your money"

I told him "All I want to know is if my money is going to be refunded" He then had an attitude and said, "for the 4th time we don't want your money, check your account tommorow if you want confirmation" After that I didn't call back anymore, and I looked at the documents attached in the e-mail that Jennifer had sent me, the second document looks like a contract titled

"Reimbursement Guarantee

This reimbursement guarantee is designed to protect your initial investment and likewise, to protect Superiors trade secrets, good will, and trademarks. Superior Lamp guarantees reimbursement of your initial $350.00 commitment after the successful completion of 90 days with Superior Lamp and having solely written $6000.00 in volume that has been fully paid by your accounts, Superior Lamp guarantees reimbursement of your initial $350.00 investment. You will be reimbursed only after meeting the requirements stated above, under no other conditions will a refund be made. There are no refunds for the $49.00 light kit. The remaining investment is refundable.

After having satisfied the above requirements, your $350.00 reimbursement will be presented to you by our president during your expense free trip to our office.

I __________________, authorize Superior Lamp Inc. to deduct $399.00 from my Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover or Debit Card account_____________________________(code _____). My cards expiration date is ___/___. This will fulfill my $350.00 initial refundable investment.
_______________________ _________________________
Manager Salesperson (signature) Date"

I never signed this or sent it back to Jennifer. I did give them my card information over the phone, however, they must refund me my money since I never signed to this agreement and havn't gone through a full hiring process yet, they should NOT have deducted the $399.00 from my account until I signed this as well as completed the application form and sent both forms back to them.
Tommorow is Friday, we will see what they have to say when I call them, I am not even remotely interested in doing any type of job with Superior Lamp. If this is how they treat their potential employees, I cannot imagine how they treat their customers, or are even capable of doing any repeat business with them. If they do not refund my money promptly I will not hesitate taking them to small claims court.

Sincerely,

Adrian

Well, believe it or not I got my money back from superior lamp. I believe the only reason they gave me my money back is due to the fact that I hadn't yet signed their contract and application files sent to me in the initial e-mail after my payment. I guess I was lucky. I will definately never do business with this company again, because after the way they talked to me on the phone as a potential employee, I can't imagine their customers or actual employees are treated any better. Stay away from superior lamp.
