I purchased an Orbitrek from Thane International on 12/2899.
On 1/26/00 I neglected to see an automatic, unathorized charge on my CRC for $72.00 from MWI Leisure Advantage.
I purhcased an AbDoer from Thane International on 11/8/00.
On 11/27/00 I found an automatic, unauthorized charge on my CRC for $99.95 from MWI Leisure Advantage.
When I called MWI Leisure Advantage they informed me that I automatically was charged for their discount program becaus eI had not called to cancel in 30 days from the time I purchased equipment at Thane International.
When I spoke with Thane customer service and inquired as to why my credit card was given to another company without my authorization, their response was that every operator tells the customer about this offer at the time of purchase and that it is my obligation to call and cancel within 30 days. I informed her that I had never been told anything about a discount program for leisure activities.
This is a blatant RIP OFF of people's money. How many credit card statements have been paid without the person even noticing this automatic charge? I'm incensed.

I am an ex-employee of UDS which as of a couple of months ago served as Customer service for Thane's product line among other things.
I as a previous customer service representative can sympathize with the intial reporter.
Daily we received calls from customers who placed their product orders with other third party telemarketing firms. The majority of these customers were inquiring why they were charged additional money for membership programs. Of the 8,000 calls we received in a day a quarter could be attributed to complaints about unauthorized charges among a myriad of other ligitmate customer complaints about defective products, unauthorized charges, etc.

To the customers affected by this issue, please accept my apologies on behalf of Thane for any inconvenience suffered in this situation.
At the time of this event, Thane did partner with third parties to offer additional products and services. ALL of these products and services were billed only with the express knowledge and consent of the customer. In addition, prior to the 30 day free trial ending, the customer received written information regarding the program for which they had enrolled.
At this time, Thane is no longer affiliated with MWI Leisure Advantage.
Thane conducts nearly a million direct to consumer transactions every year, with a very high level of customer satisfaction. The company has been in business for 12 years, and has an excellent track record with the Better Business Bureau and all other regulatory agencies.
