I attended a 10 month long .NET programming course. I am no newbie to the IT field, I have been working in it for approx 10 years now. Anyway, during the 3rd month, our instructor left in the middle of the 2 courses she taught. They had no one who really new the material well, so they supplied us with instructors who were learning with us and doing barely enough to get by, basically. It was horrible.

During the next semester, another instructor decided to go on vacation for 2 weeks...near the end of our course with no proper support for our case studies. This is when we learned that a company called High tech (maybe different spelling) just purchased chubb institute. Our instructors then told us that other instructors knew about this for some time which is why some left, their pay checks have been cut, lost their offices and other things.

Our last semester was a real joke, one class the instructor spent most of the time venting and handing out A's on projects that weren't even completed. Our business ethics instructor (online) didn't show for 3/4 of the classes either.

They no longer offer programming or DBA courses of any type (under it's new management). It's no wonder since it actually takes some intelligence to learn. Now they only offer the usual so called networking, pc, low end numb medical classes.

We saw the difference in the students as our course was ending also. No longer professional if very few. It's alot like high school now.

Suggestion:
-If your serious about learning, stay far away from Chubb.

-If you barely made it through high school (or not at all and aquired a GED) and are very young, immature and are not very serious about success then Chubb is for you.

Chubb can not attract the best teachers

AUTHOR: Freeatlast - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 11, 2007

The comments posted by Sheila are 100% correct! I worked part time as an instructor at Chubb a number of years ago. When the Chubb Insurance Co. sold The Chubb Institute to High Tech they cut the salaries of the part time adjunct instructors by about 30%. I had been teaching there for over 5 years and had always received very high marks in reviews from students, but it meant nothing.

The pay cut was across the board. I was asked to cut my salary by $10 per hour. I told them "no thank you, and walked away". A year prior, in order to bolster the profitability of the school when they were trying to sell it they laid off all of the salaried full time instructors (with benefits). They then hired the same instructors back as Adjunct Instructors (paid by the hour).

This is a company without a conscious. The evening part time instructors they hire now must be willing to work for a much lower hourly rate. As a result, the quality of instruction suffers. The instructors are not required to have college degrees or even certifications in the area they are teaching. The school only requests 3 years of job experience in the field of study. As a result, you can not quantify or measure the knowledge level of the instructor.

I have witnessed situations in which the management has placed instructors into classes teaching material they had no knowledge or background in. I have observed some instructors there that do no more than read to the students from the textbook. Do you really want to pay $17,000 for bargain basement instructors? Do the math, if the goal is to hire instructors cheaply what do you think you will be getting in terms of quality in the classroom.

The school stays open by suckering students who had not done their homework prior to enrolling. Remember, "there's a sucker born every minute". If you want a quality education, you need to attend a traditional college or university to obtain a Associates or Bachelors degree. A college degree has some worth when you apply for a job. What do you think employers think when they see a Chubb certificate? Once they are done laughing, your resume ends up in the trash. Wise up, there is no shortcut to quality education. If you lack the money or time to go to college and you want to get into computers I would suggest buying some good books on A+, Network+, Linux+, etc..

Study the books and take the certifications exams. Once you pass the certifications exams you need to pound the pavement and try to get yourself an entry level job. Don't waste your time and money at a diploma mill.

Chubb is worthless since 1990

AUTHOR: Business - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 25, 2006

I am a CHUBBY, took ASM, COBOL, JCL 1990.
One of the last class tought assembler.
Chubb no longer has the same worth in the industry as it did years ago.

I commented because I took offense to your remarks about a GED (Good Enough education Don't worry about it).

Personally I think a person who has a GED has more on the ball then a person who just finishes high school.

If you say your in the industry 10 years and your still going to CHUBB for classes, sounds like you got pigon-wholed in your career.
You might have done better with a GED like I did, make the big bucks within the 10 years of leaving CHUBB and your done working for a living. Maybe a GED would have given you the insight needed to get further along then you are.

Chubb Institute/Hi-Tech/Banner Institute/Banner College

I have worked for 2 of these schools. They ARE A DEFINATE RIP-OFF. WITHDRAW FROM THIS SCHOOL. As long as you are a student there this practice will continue. YOU generate their revenue, YOU provide them with their paycheck. Why pay $10,00 to be mistreated. Take your moneu and RUN
You would do much better going to a city collge or adult continiung education classes.
I agree with all of the complaints.
The teacher's salary SUCKS that is why their is no loyalty form the staff. Things change with out warning ...like the name of the school, policies, test requirements, etc.
The departments heads do NOT know much more than the student or instructors and MOST are NOT DEGREED IN ANYWAY!
If you are a current student of one of these schools:
1. Go to the schools main website where they ask you for your information to begin your "new career",in the comments section please voice your opinion, it will be forwarded to the appropriate people. This may cause a little stir but little will change.
2)Contact your state board of education and file a complaint.
3)Start a petition and send the results to your local attorney General's Office
4)Contact your loan office and WITHDRAW FROM THIS SCHOOL. Let then KNOW Your last date of class. The school will try and keep as much money as possible.
The Certificate alone is not worth much. Especially if you have been lacking in classroom education. Many high-paying jobs will require you take an exam. Also, in order to pass certification you NEED the classroom lectures to be thorough, Not word for word off of a few sheets of paper.
