They got me 4 years ago when I bought a 2011 Prius. The dealer got me approved quickly with an insane 15% interest rate. They said I should refinance later. Then every time I have ever called TFS I have been rudely treated like an enemy regardless of the reason I call. I've tried to refinance through them, but the just flatly offer an address where I should surrender the car (and surrender the equity I have paid in to them). The dealer keeps sending me refinancing promotions to come get a new vehicle and refinance at a lower interest rate, and every time I come in they make me sit there for hours while TFS refuses to hear any offer, even though my credit score is at least 100 points higher than when I started. And the total payoff amount keeps going UP. I did the math and I'd I make all the payments to the maturity date I end up paying twice the price I agreed on for the car. So I finally refinanced through my credit card company. They have been friendly, and the interest rate is much lower. I'm so glad TFS is out of my life. Please don't do business with them if you can avoid it.

When someone finances a car, there is NO NEED for all this constant contact with the lender as you spoke of...unless...you are regularly late paying, asking for "arrangements" etc. When you pay late, YOU generate extra interest for the lender...as YOU have. There's no big mystery here and no financial misdeeds on their part. Your APR? You brought bad credit to the deal and as such, you haven't earned a lower rate. Then incredibly, you continue not paying on time! Looks to me, you are a serial deadbeat looking for excuses to discredit the lender because you don't like their collections efforts which YOU caused! And no, I don't work for them.
