I work for a major corporation in the sales department. Some of the positions within my company require a life insurance license which, as I learned from my recent bitter experience with Transamerica, makes us a target for this company.

One of the associates in Transamerica at Pomona, CA., called me (without telling me she was working for Transamerica) to make an appointment with me to learn about some of the services we offer. It is normal for me to receive such calls and off I went

When I arrived there (Saturday morning, 50 mile drive to Pomona), I was suprised to learn that this person was in a meeting. My time is valuable and I clarified to the receptionist (very busiy with many many people coming into a meeting) that this Lady had made an appointment with me. finally, the woman who made the appointment came out of somewhere in a very crowded reception area.

In an unprofessional manner she indicated that she "didn't remember she had another meeting at that time, but she was now inviting me to her other meeting" ..what, don't they know how to schedule? I tried to get to my sales presentation, but she was not interested in my presentation, but instead trying to talk me into staying for the recruitment meeting, because perhaps she "would have some timee after her next meeting."

How shameless.

I suspected this was from the start  a scam to cheat me into a recruiting meetings. So this is the ethics of the agents or representatives of Transamerica:This woman made me drive more than 50 miles in a Saturday morning, using a lie to have an opportunity to recruit me.

I gave this person the benefit of the doubt and so I followed up with her but to no avail, the first time she told me she had to call me back and thereafter she would not pick up my calls, even to hear what actually my product is about. At least she should have the decency to hear the presentation she caled me for.

I have personally been invited to several of these "mixers" and "meetings" in more than one location of Transamerica  Such invitations often conceal the true nature of the meetings. I have enough business and sales experience to know this: if they are dying to recruit you, it is probably not a good thing for you, unless you are a movie star or a legend of sorts in your business.  I have heard their presentation at other locations and had to walk away in boredom with the nonsense. They have no respect for people's time, perhaps because theirs isn't worth much.

This organization in particular relies on coveted lies and half truths to enrol naive people to get them to buy or sell their products to their sphere of influence. which is the extent of the money that the majority of the recruits are going to ever make. In this type of scheme, there is very little room for ethics.

I doubt any serious banking institutions would call anyone into their office with a lie and then try to recruit them to sell their products on commission ... They wouldn't because they would have a big o' complaint with the Department of Corporations to begin with.

I can't understand why our authoriities allow a pyramid "business model" when it comes to something of crucial importance to consumers as financial and insurance business.
