Budget Rent-A-Car directed me to Traveler's Advantage after booking a rental car. After being connected, I was told of the discounts I would get from my rental: a "free" $40 use of American Express Card, one free tank of gas on my trip, and discounts on travel. I might have received a discount on that particular car rental but I'm no longer sure of that! When I later called to cancel my "membership" because I received none of the benefits for joining, I was told that they would correct the problem by sending me the free gas card, etc., and I would no longer be charged for the membership. Hah! Nothing changed! They continued to charge my credit card and that is all, except they send me a check once a month for $9.99 that if I were to endorse, would automatically enroll me for a year's membership at $49 dollars-or somewhere in that dollar range. Why bother to enroll in something they are already (and unauthorized) charging me for? This company is scamming people right and left as you read this. They are simply in business to deceive you and take your money without giving anything in return, knowing that many Americans don't look at their credit card bills carefully, if at all. And it's true. We don't look at our credit card bills because most of us our living beyond our stagnant incomes, and it hurts to look. Our government's laissez-faire approach to big business won't be of much help. I'll never rent from Budget Car Rental again since they are complicit in this scamming game. From now on I'm reading my credit card statements very carefully. Don't fall "this time it'll be different" routine when you call to cancel your unauthorized charged membership. Personally, I don't expect to get my money back, but I won't be giving them any more of it!
