I signed up for Travelers Insurance, through GEICO, for home insurance. I used this company for a full two years during which I occupied my residence. I paid my dues on time for the full term of the policy, and never submitted a claim.

At the end of the two years (August 2013), I moved from the insured residence to another residence. In July, a month before moving, I called Travelers to ask what i needed to do to cancel the policy. The Travelers CSR told me that I should just pay through the end of the coverage period and then stop making payments, and the policy would automatically cancel.

I followed the CSR's instructions, and was surprised when, in November, a collection agency started contacting me, telling me that Travelers had submitted me to collections because I owed hundreds of dollars of unpaid insurance premiums.

I contacted the collection agency and was told to talk to Travelers. I talked to Travelers and was told that I need to talk to GEICO. I talked to GEICO, and the CSR looked up my records and confirmed their records indciated that the CSR had told me to stop making payments. The CSR admitted that that was a mistake, and that not only did I not owe any balance, but GEICO owed me a refund. The CSR promised to update my account, that the collection calls would be halted, that my credit record would not be affecrted. The CSR promised that the problem would be completely resolved within 72 hours, and that a refund would be submitted.

A month later, I am still receiving calls from the collections agency. The frequency of the calls has escalated to daily - including the day before my wedding.

I spent another 45 minutes on the phone today with the collections agency, with Travelers, and with GEICO. The story hasn't changed: the collections agency indicates that I need to talk to Travelers; Travelers says that I owe money and need to talk to GEICO; and GEICO says that they fixed their records, they're issuing a refund, and that the collections calls should have stopped. GEICO says they can't do anything else for me.

tl;dnr - My credit is being ruined and I am being harassed over a canceled policy in a place where I no longer live, and an account on which GEICO owes me a refund. I've wasted hours talking to CSRs that have been totally ineffective, there's nothing I can do about it, and both GEICO and Travelers seem uninterested in correcting the mistakes.
