Fresh From the Kill Site -- Ultimate Electronics, Murray Utah.

Saturday I visited Ultimate Electronics in Orem,Utah to purchase two Kenwood Z919 Auto MP3/CD Receivers. They had only one in stock. The salesperson Coby was courteous, honest, and gave me a great deal on the one unit. He then searched the computer to see if any other Ulimate stores had the product. He determined that the store in Murray had one in stock. Murray is 45 miles from Orem.

I went home, called the Murray store and spoke with Chad, the auto receiver salesperson. He verified they had one left and we negotiated the same price $399 that I got at the Orem store.

When I went to pay for the unit today, I introduced myself, stated my purpose for being there and asked for Chad. The floor manager said he wasn't available but I should talk with Tyrone Franklin, who knew about our discussion.

Tyrone from the beginning was rude. He said "What do you want?" I told him I was there to pick up the receiver and at what price. He said they couldn't honor the $399 price. It had to be $499 plus a one year service agreement.

Frustrated, I asked him if he was aware of the $399 agreement I had with Chad. He said he was. Nevertheless, he said, Chad didn't have the authority to promise such a price and that the store manager said they would only sell it to me at the higher price.

Upon hearing this I got angry. I told Tyrone to tell his manager that they are trying to pull a classical scam and that I wasn't goning to take it. I told him that he was going to be reported to KIQ AM 1010 radio in Salt Lake and to the RipOffReport.com.

He walked back to talk to his manager. After about five minutes he came out and asked me rudely for my credit card. I asked why he wanted it and he answered rudely, "you got your deal!"

Without a word, he processed my credit card, had me sign the authorization and rudely gave me my package. I then left the store vowing never to come back again -- at least not at that location.

On the way home, I called KIQ, got on the air and reported my experience.

Without the leverage and threat of media exposure I am sure Ultimate Electronics would not have lived up to their promise.

Why do companies like this try to turn their customers into enemies? Why can't they say, "Yes, he gave you too low of a price but, irregardless, we will honor our word because we want you to come back again and again."

Instead, they use transparent scam tactics and create ill will. When will companies like this ever learn?

Warning to all potential Ultimate Electronic, Murray, Utah customers. IF they tried to do this to me, they have done it to others before and they will try to do it again. If you have been victimized in the same way, report it here. Don't let them get away with it. And if you should go to the store -- caveat emptor -- buyer beware! You have been warned!

I agree with Matt, although I dont think I know him I may..I've worked for Soundtrack/Ultimate Electronic for almost 9 years and this company will in almost every situation side with the customer..even at an employees expense.

It does fall to the customer to talk to the manager when issues fall beyond a sales clerks authority..this is such a case..no scam was intended..the word "scam" is inappropriate...misunderstanding and poor customer service would be closer to truth..

Our phone system..the folders we place your invoices in and our front counters give the consumer many options to find and complain to managers or even the company president Dave Workman.

I feel bad that you encountered such service but if you do plan to shop for electronics again talk to the manager...there are some products that because of agreements to vendors we cannot discount them ..kenwood i thinks is one..Im sure he will find the right person to help you.

I work for Ultimate Electronics training department and I'm very sorry for your crumy experiance. Please understand this isn't our intention.

I think this was a poor snapshot of our comapnies way of doing bussines and our core culture. We base our companies success on good customer service and outstanding product knowlage.

I don't think it's possible to be perfect, but we are working very hard to provide a great experiance to everyone who walks though the front door.

I started as a CSR (front counter help) with this company over five years ago. I moved to car audio sales, then to audio video sales and eventualy a sales trainer.

I have seen things like this happen to people in the all of the Ultimate stores that I have worked at, I have even been a part of mistreating customers myself.

It can happen! Here is a good test:

Just go to ultimate/soundtrack/audio king and shop for something, you don't have to buy anything, now go to another electronics dealer and see for yourself.

I,d be willing to bet, your experiance with us will, nine times out of ten, be better than the rest. That is what we try to do.

Remember every story has a flip-side to it.

thanks for reading this novel.
