I spent two years at Univ of Phx, when making an inquiry regarding whether or not their degrees would be accepted by Arizona School Districts I was told they would be without a doubt. When I contacted the districts myself I was told that they were not accepted by any district because they are not a nationally accredited school, too bad for me I was already 18 months into my degree.
Then the month I finished my degree I qualified for a $2700 grant and was re-assured by my financial adviser, Kerri, that money would be mine and would not be applied to my outstanding balance. The letter I got from Univ of Phx even stated they were not allowed to use that money toward my outstanding balance.
A month later my financial adviser called to tell me that her department took too long to place my final loan toward my outstanding balance and they were going to use my grant money to pay off my loan otherwise they would not be releasing my diploma to me. So because they took too long to apply my loan the money was sent back to the lender, they took my $2700 grant they guaranteed they would not touch and have yet to send me my diploma 90 days after I graduated.
I am a single mother, they screwed me over with my degree that I can't use at any educational facility, they stole $2700 from me AND have not followed through on a single thing they have ever promised me.
If you read this and still go to this school, you deserve to be taken.

Response #4 makes an excellent point: accreditation can differ from one agency to the next. I know this from personal experience because I've worked in higher education administration for most of my professional life (20+ years and still counting).
U of P is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of North Central Association. This is the body that accredits colleges and universities in the middle of the US. It's a national accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education.
Their teacher education programs are accredited through NCATE, which is the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. This is top-tier accreditation for teachers. There exists a partnership between the State of Arizona and NCATE in which the standards for state approval have been adopted and/or adapted from NCATE standards. In other words, if your college is in Arizona, you're meeting the requirements of NCATE.
It is entirely possible that employers in Arizona have not had good experiences with graduates from U of P and won't consider them for teaching positions. If so, that's unfortunate. However, there isn't much the OP can do about it at this point.
Having been an educator for so long, it saddens me that the OP has obviously worked hard to make a career for herself, and is now finding that her degree won't get her where she wants to be and where they told her she COULD be. But in this case, the fault seems to lie with the employers, and not necessarily the school.

Saying something is nationally accredited and just leaving it at that is meaningless. There are many different boards and groups that issue accreditations. It sounds like the school in question is probably nationally accredited by someone. All being accredited means is that some board or entity has found that the school meets some set of criteria, you have accredited beauty schools and accredited law schools. They are not accredited by the same people or for the same purpose.
The important question is accredited BY WHO and FOR WHAT, and what does that accreditation mean? Just because a school is accredited by someone somewhere does not mean that whoever issues various professional licenses (for things like teaching, or nursing, or law or medicine) will treat the degree as meeting all of the educational requirement for issuance of a license. The thing to do is to confirm directly with whoever issues the professional license you need that the degree is sufficient (and do so before signing up with the school). Don't rely on employees of the school to confirm this! Whatever employee you speak with at the school may not really know, may have misunderstood what he/she was told, or may just be wrong.

Univ of Phx IS NOT a nationally accredited school, they are a state wide accredited school. Even when transferring to another school they confirmed that Univ of Phx is only state-wide.
I do not care what a website said, I contacted the districts myself and was told that having a degree from Univ of Phx is worthless and puts me at the bottom of the pile.
You are out of state and are trusting websites vs. what real-life people have confirmed. Despite what you may think I am not just angry about what happened, I have checked my information.

I'm not a fan of U of P, but let's play fairly. First of all, they ARE nationally and regionally accredited. Second, they are on the list of approved schools according to the Arizona School District's website for teacher certification (http://www.azed.gov/highly-qualified-professionals/azboardapprovedprograms/).
I can understand your frustration over the grant, and that may be a legitimate complaint.
