I have been attending the University of Phoenix since April 2009 and I had no problems with them in
the beginning. I had received my loans and grants on time the first time they were disbursed to
me, but i had applied for another loan and grant in February 2010, the financial adivsor ( Marcella
Rivas) kept telling me it was in process, this went on and on all the way until January 2011. I
received a letter stating that I would receive $1388 in pell grant but they will not disburse it to me
because I failed a few classes because of family emergencies. They are not willing to work with me
in any way at all. Marcella wrote off one class for me and is now billing me for $3,512.30 for the
other classes. My loans should cover all of that and she refuses to use my loans for it. I call over
and over again to talk to my financial advisor and academic advisor and never get a call back, all
they will do is email me. It is very frustrating, I am a single mother of three trying to get my
education and they are not making it a very pleasant experience at all. I love school but I can not
handle this school anymore. I need something to be done about the University of Phoenix because
there are so many people who have been ripped off by them and there have been class action
lawsuits on them already, like the one in Arkansas. We need to get one going here in Washington
State so the University of Phoenix can not keep ripping people off over and over again. I can not
afford to pay anything back in cash right this second. All I would owe if they knew how to teach,
would be the loans six months after I graduate. I will not be graduating from this school because
they keep flunking me in the same classes so they can try an get cash from me. I refuse to pay
them because again I have loans that pay for my school and I should not ever have to pay out of
pocket while in school. Please if anyone else has been through this lets get something going. I can
go on and on but it would turn into a book, so I will leave it at that and see what happens.
Thank you
Michelle Hendricks

I do know that if you fail classes, any college will make you pay them to re-take the course. You have to look from their point of view on how many students say they have family emergencies, not to say you are not telling the truth.

Email him your situation and give your name and IRN number. I hope this helps. I know I failed Algebra and because this was the only class I failed they let me re-take the course without paying for it. It was towards the end of my A.A. Degree and I had all "A"'s in the other courses. I am in my B.S. classes now studying Business and I have had a great experience
with this University. Talk with them and see what you can do. They are always here to help
