I saw a commercial for the above University. I was interested in obtaining my Bachelor's degree. Being able to go to school while in the comfort in my home seemed amazing.

I talked to a lady in financial aide. Gave her my information, filled out a new FAFSA form, had my transcripts sent to them.

I had 70 credits that I was informed would transfer 100%. The 1st class that I would take would be free. It was a promotion for that month. The 1st class was only 2 credits and more of an introductory class. The class would teach us the basic tools of how each class ran.

I also had to apply for student loans. I was able to max them at 4k since I was considered a Junior.

Week 3 of my 1st class I received 2 checks from the UOP totaling 3k. They were refund checks from my loans. I was pretty pumped about it. So I cashed the checks and paid some bills. I then get a bill from UOP for 5k. I was royally mad.

I was charged 1060 for my introductory class. Each credit was 530. That is more than what U of M charges per credit hour. My 70 credits didn't transfer fully either. I was given partial credit. So instead of needing 50 credits to graduate I now needed 70.

I called UOP and was informed that they never offered the intro class free. I was confused. When asking about my 5k bill I was told that it was for my other 4 classes. WHAT!?!

Why did they send me a 4k refund? They informed me that I was responsible for sending them in payment for my classes.

This didn't make any sense. Why would I sign up for a school to have to pay out at least 1800 every 6 weeks. My financial aide wouldn't cover the whole cost. They overcharge for classes that aren't worth it. They lie, steal and defraud the general public until they are screwed.

They sent me to collections for the 5k. They informed me that since I withdrew from UOP they had to send Sally Mae 5k back. Since I didn't complete my classes. I called Sally Mae. They never received a dime from UOP. The only thing I owed was the 4k that I took for student loans.

UOP sent me bills, collector calls etc. I filed a complaint with the AG in that state as well as Michigan. Needless to say that 4k showed up on my credit report. It was quickly a write off once the AG got involved.

These people are crooks. The school is worthless. Why would I pay 45k for a Bachelor's from UOP when I could go to U of M and pay half.

DO NOT LET THESE PPL SCAM YOU!!

How do you have any idea what his counselor/sales person promised him? You calmly state precisely what type of promotion, free books, was offered to him, but you have no way of knowing this.

It seems pretty common for UOP counselors to lie and obfuscate. Maybe not all of them, but plenty do. I was deceived, tuition was 50% more than I was told it would be, yeah I checked the rates in the student handbook, I thought building web pages was IT, but it was billed as business, hence the tuition bump. I was told that with the transfer of my current credits I could graduate in one year or less, once we got started, it was 2 1/2 years. The worst thing was, I thought I was enrolling in a university, one of those places with professors and all, where you learn things from someone who knows more than the guy sitting next to you at the bar, but it wasn't.

You know, come to think of it, my ten weeks of hell attending UOP were bad enough, the cost was absurd and a real rip off and all in all it was a degrading experience. People who get taken in by this fake university can't do anything to get their time, money or credit scores back, so they come to this website to vent and share their stories, to warn others and commiserate. It is a little disgusting that UOP would pay a creep like you, to come and insult the people that have already been ripped off by this joke of a school. It is actually really disgusting, because the studens fees pay for you to take the time to get on this website and oh so politely and authoritatively insult them. This is what UOP is about, a fake image, a fake education, and a fake concerned blogger.

Your facts are all wrong

Firstly, tuition is never free. There was a promotion for free books for your first 5 week class, but not the entire class (which is actually 3 credit hours, not 2). Depending on if you are federally clasified as dependent or independent, you get a certain amount in federal loans and possible grants. the excess funds check(s) is the money left over after receiving your first semester's worth of tuition and book expenses and applying the funds received.

Depending on if you chose to administer your own funds you have to pay each 5 week class as you go, or you can choose for us to receive and apply your federal money FOR you as a service. We send you a complete and detailed breakdown of every penny. If you have questions, it is UP TO YOU to figure out what is going on.

People think this is a hands-off experience where we do everything for you, while actually, the student is responsible for making sure everything is in order. If you ask for our help, we will give it.

As far as transferrable credits, each college and university has it's requirements for bringing in credits. it's never completely guaranteed. As a service to attending students we will request your official transcripts and evaluate them and bring in as many credits as possible. Just be aware that you can only have so many electives and other pre-requisite general education credits. If you have a ton of history courses or science courses, they may not all come over.

Also, courses in the 300 level probably won't transfer becasue of residency requirements that EVERY school has.

I am astonished that people don't take the time to be informed or read their rights and responsibilities, then threaten litigation when they are suprised with something that shouldn't have been a suprise. Be aware.

As a Junior (or grade level 3), you should have received about $12,300 in stafford loans for the year, divided by 2 (half for the 1st semester, half for the 2nd). If you qualified for Pell money, too, you would have gotten that extra money in a second check. Hence the two checks. Tuition is roughly $9,500/academic year plus books ($75/class). You should have received about $1,000 extra for the excess in stafford loans and whatever else for the Pell grant you were awarded.

If this makes sense, you will understand the system a little better, if not, get informed. You have to make sense of it all, and the additional $20,000 you have left to finish your bachelors is actually well worth it.
