I was an enrollment counselor at UOP and I am now ashamed that I have enrolled students at this institution. Here is what I have learned after working at this place.

It is a sales job and there is a lot of emphasis on numbers. There is a quota. If after six months you do not meet the quota, they decrease your salary. Hence the pressure to enroll students and have students begin classes when you are not ready and before financial aid is confirmed. If you must attend this school, stand your ground and do not be forced to begin before you are ready and until you have all the information on financial aid.

They are predatory in their practices and even when you have stated that you are not interested they will continue to call you. I was required to make 100+ calls a day. You must say "take my name off the list" in order to stop the calls. Sadly, they still may continue to call.

Be aware: In most states, this institution cannot certify you if you want to teach or if you want to be a nurse. They will try to talk you into some kind of management program related to these areas. Do not fall for it.

There are minimal entrance requirements. I have enrolled students that could not complete a sentence. They can hide behind a computer and get "As" in their classes. I personally believe that this institution is contributing to the downfall of the educational standards in this county.

Finally: FIND ANOTHER SCHOOL. In the long run, you may get a better education and it may be cheaper.

Ashamed --

When did you stop working at University of Phoenix? I know that since 2005/2006, they have supposedly cleaned up their act as far as recruiting goes.

Given that the Department of Education is starting another program review in 2009, and that they are up for recertification next year as well, it seems that they would have taken action to remedy these recruiting violations.

For example, basing salary solely on enrollment numbers is not allowed -- this was the primary violation cited in August 2004. Is this still an issue at UOP?
