I enrolled as a student at University of Phoenix in June of 2006. I stopped taking classes through the university in June of 2007 because I felt I was not getting a quality education. Further investigation revealed that reprsentatives from the University of Phoenix may not have been honest about their accreditation for my program of study so I did not take any further classes with them.

About six months later, I received a call from a collections agency claiming I owed University of Phoenix about $5400. I was certain that my account was paid-in-full at the time of my departure from University of Phoenix's. While I was investigating the issue, aggressive collections agents repeatedly called me at home and at work threatening me with lawsuits if I did not pay University of Phoenix the $5400. I filed a complaint with the state against the collections agency for breaking my state's collections laws regarding time of day, etc. and sought outside representation to handle University of Phoenix.

Correspondence with University of Phoenix proved to be difficult as they often did not answer the pone/return calls when my representative called, and they only replied to one email correspondence. My representative discovered a discrepency in a statement the university provided me in which the University of Phoenix claimed to refund over $8000 in student loan money to me in March of 2007. Upon checking my student loan information in February of 2008, we discovered the refund was never made to me but I was paying on a student loan amount as if they had refunded me the money (I was paying on an extra $8000!!!). When the matter was brought to the attention of University of Phoenix they quickly (and discreetly) credited the $8000 back to my student loan account without any apologies or explanation. Then I received a bill in the mail for the $8000+/_ from University of Phoenix, which was another billing error on their part.

I recently completed my yearly credit report check and discovered that the University of Phoenix has damaged my credit report with a charge-off in the amount of $5400, to which I filed an ivestigation. I am interested in seeking legal counsel for this nightmare.
