After moving to Lincoln, NE, I decided to open a US bank account based on the fact that I there were US bank's in the two other cities I visit the most. So I went in, made an intial deposit and opened my account. When I opened my account I was told any deposit would be held for five days until a month had passed since I opened my account. So I used my card after the funds had been collected...no problems. So after that I deposited a check for around $950 a small savings cashout from my last job. When I checked the reciept it actually said all the funds were available at the ATM. I was skeptical, so I decided to wait five days to use my account again, in fear of fees. Five days pass, I check my balance at an ATM, and it is positive $1050, where it should be, so I am thinking it's ok to use it. I use it four times, for gas, medicine and make an ATM withdraw. Sure enough I get charged $130 in OD fees.

I went in and complained at the office listed, I was told that I would get two OD fees credited back, I felt good about that so I left it alone. Well it turns out they were just feeding me bs because they didn't actually refund, possibly because I forgot to get documentation.

So I called the branch back, they said they couldn't refund the fees, I told them about my meeting yesterday and they thought I was lying to them!! So I called their 1800 customer service line. After waiting 10 minutes I talked to someone about the problem. I told them that it was unfair that I waited five days to use my bank card, and I told them the ATM reciept said my balance was positive. Well they didn't refund anything for me, I was told over and over again that I should have read through their 20 brochures I got when I opened the account, and since apparently the funds were unavailable, even after I waited five days, they still would not refund my OD charges.

I am still calling and trying to get these refunded. US Bank is nothing but money hungry leeches who would rather screw people over then conduct good, fair business.. DO NOT BANK AT US BANK.

The meaning of account v available balance

AUTHOR: Cj - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 26, 2007

Greetings. On your receipts after deposits it lists (2) balances, one
your "account" balance and the other your "available" balance. The available
balance is what you should go by. Available balance reflects both pending
deposits that have not been cleared yet and also visa check card authorizations.
You probably looked at the account balance figure on your receipt instead of the available balance figure. In regards to reversing fees, I would only say that fees are
assessed when someone violates the terms of their account agreement. No one is entitled to having fees credited unless the fees were caused by a bank error
or duplicate or unauthorized transactions.
