US Bank took over from Bankrupt Downey Savings. I had internet banking for my CDs with Downey Savings, but US Bank said that I could not have internet banking unless I opened a Savings Account and placed at least $25 it it. I did that and was able to access my accounts online. After the first month, I notice that they had deducted $4 from my Savings account as a maintenance fee. My CDs apparently did not count towards the minimum balance even though they had a lot of money in them. So I called and closed the savings account, and asked for my $21 back (I gave up on the $4). I was told a check would be mailed to me. After three weeks of not getting the check, I called back. (Many minutes of on-hold waiting, of course). I was told that since I had the account for less than 6 months, they would confiscate all my money from the account. I asked to speak to a manager. I was told that the manager was "having computer problems" but would call me back. Guess what?!? No return phone call. Beware this scam!

Banks can't keep money because "they want to". There is probably some sort of early closure fee that happened to be more than $21. Don't try to make it sound like someone is stealing from you and that you're some helpless victim. Read your tems and conditions booklet and I'm sure, if there is a fee like I mentioned, it will be stated there.
