Usenext Charging me for unused use and contract fee Germany Internet

This is the first time I have ever had to do this about a company but now this company has driven me nearly insane. 

For a about 4 years I've used a company called USENEXT off and on which enabled me to download files from various websites. This website allows you to buy so many megabytes to download things at a fast speed. Over the 4years this has been quite handy as and when I've needed it and when I did I use to just top up my usage. However I got to a point were I used up my last load of megabytes and found a cheaper alternative on the market so didn't have the need for usenext. About a month later I receive a letter explaining that I have not cancelled my contract and there fore owe 20 euros. over the four year period I had never had this happen before nor did I know anything about a contract. I then took some time off work and rang the company in Germany to ask questions about this. They told me that they were going to review the situation and get back to me. 

2months later I then get a letter saying the amount owning is now more than before due to late payment and damages which I have no idea what damages are? From this I was then very annoyed so I took some more time off work to ring the company again. I got through to a good English speaking customer care man who looked at the case. I had told the gentleman that I had been with this company on and off for a long time and had never been approached like this before with charges. i told him that the service they provided did not meet the price range that another company was offering hence why I was not using them. With that in mind the gentleman then said that he would sort it and make sure that the debt was cleared and I did not get any more charges. 

After thinking everything was sorted about 2weeks later I get a letter with even more charges and damages on it. Well after this I though I was going to go mentle. I though obviously telephone conversations where not working so I emailed the company explaining that the customer service gentleman told me that all charges and damages were going to be void. 

After this email I generally though this had sorted it and that at there end they had made a mistake. This was until 2 and a half months later I then get a letter through from the company stating that they have taken this matter into consideration and that I was entitled to pay 72 euros but as a friendly gesture they would reduce it to 60 euros And that I can only do it by transferring it. 

Now this company has got me so cross as I feel they really are not listen to me nor are they doing what they have said and going bk on there word. Not only have I been told this charge would be void they now have charged me 40-60 euros in damages and charges. I know this has nothing to do with it but the worst thing is my wife and I are having our first baby and money is so tight at the moment I really can't afford to pay it even if I wanted to but if you're been told already the case will be dropped but then charges increasing after every letter what do I do 

i really really hope some one can help me with this as its worrying the hell out of me and I really don't know where I stand with this whole thing. All I do know is that I will never use this company again and would make sure people stay wellclear unless you wanted to keep incurring damage charges
