If there is a possibility of avoiding financing through Vanderbilt, PLEASE do so! This so called mortgage company is a Rip-off!!!
We assumed a loan from the previous owner of our 1999 Clayton singlewide. We purchased it 4 years ago for $30,000. We have never been late in 4 years until last month we had a little bit of a problem so we were almost a month behind but we were in contact with Vanderbilt to let them know what was going on. They have been SO rude to us and treated us like dirt. What happened to respect or a little sympathy? My wife has been harrassed at work and now they are threatening foreclosure, even though we made the payment.
My wife called Vanderbilt to get the payoff information and they refused to give it to her until the payment was made. After several minutes of arguing, my wife finally convinced the rep to give her the amount. We still owe 26,000 after paying $500 a month. It makes no sense. Where does the money go? When we first started with Vanderbilt our payment was $400 and now it is $500. They say its escrow and insurance. We say its BS!
We tried to make a payment over the phone and they wouldn't do that cause we was behind. Said i had to go to Wal-Mart and get a moneygram. I went to Wal-mart and say the price of it, and decided not to send it. I called them and said you either will take my money of the phone cause I am not going to pay 10 bucks for a d**n moneygram. Well they said, since you are refusing we will just for close on your house.
Makes me just want to tell them they can have the d**n thing, and good luck selling it for what we owe. Since the payments seem to go no where.
I don't know how these people sleep at night. After reading all the complaints about them you would think something would be done to them. What can we do as a group to take them down?

I know it's frustrating...

I know it's frustrating when you are paying so much money on a mortgage and your principal is barely reduced. However, this is the way mortgage companies, and auto loan companies work. You stated you have been paying $500 a month for 4 years and you still owe $26,000. That sounds about right. Go online a find a mortgage amortization calculator. Enter your original loan amount, interest rate and term. You can print out your entire amortization schedule and that will show you how much of your payment goes to interest and how much goes to principal for each month of your loan. In fact, everyone should do this everytime they get a loan.
It will really screw you up financially, and credit wise, if you let them foreclose.
