In defense of Vanderbilt, all these things happened before they took over Oakwood; however, most of the same people work there now, as I since had to deal with some of them. The lady who I deal with each time now, Mrs. Smith, is always nice, respecful, and helpful to me. She is one of the few. My complaint is about a man (who refused to give me his name)that was very rude and much too personal with me back when my husband and I were going through a hard time. We were in the process of filing our Chapter 7, but were still paying our mortgage because we wanted to keep our home. The payments were late, but we were trying. One month I did not make the payment on time and I had been getting a lot of harrassing phone calls. The worst ones came from a man who always pushed his limits a litte more when he called, which was daily. The particular call I'm referring to here came to MY PARENTS house for me. The man began fussing at me about being responsible for my bills. When I told him I just DID NOT have the money at the time, he proceeded to tell me that I needed to go to my family and borrow money. When I told him I had already done that previously and that they couldn't help me anymore (all true), he told me to my church and have them take up the money for me. He asked me things like "Don't you go to church? You could get help from people there," and "Can't you get a job that pays enough for you to pay your bills?" (I was working all that I could and still in college FULL TIME.) He continued being rude when I asked him for his name and told me "Worry about paying your bills, not me." Eventually I got enough of him and told him I was recording the conversation (I actually wasn't but sure wish I was) and that I was going to report him for harassment. Poof, he was gone. He hung up on me instantly. The next day I started getting the same phone calls AT WORK, only this time it was from another person. This lady was just as rude and she even cursed at me. When I finally had enough money to make one payment (June's was late and July's had just come due and wasn't even late yet!), she refused to take one without the other. She said if she didn't get both of them before the end of the week they would throw everything we had in the yard and take our home. My parents had to borrow money against their own home to prevent this and July's payment wasn't even LATE!!!!! I truly appreciate Mrs. Smith being at this company to help us and understand that we were going through a hard time back then. We have recovered from all the problems we were having and have not issues paying our mortgage now, but it truly depresses me that these people did not even try to understand our situation and take into account that they were the one bill that was getting paid! The way they treat people is unreasonable and the way their employee delved in to my personal life is unacceptable. I will not give my city on this page, but trust that what I say is true and I understand how you all feel.

All of VMF Reps are trained to speak to people in the manner that you have described. They are told to suggest the different ways for you to obtain their payments. They are also told to talk mean and nasty to you and to intimidate you into paying. They will often refuse one payment if you can't make both pmts, but toward the end of the month they will take all you can give because they want to make their bonus. This is a tactic designed to scare you into making the payments.

I almost forgot to mention that we have also had insurance policies that we do not need added on to our account, even after having our Insurance company to send proof, twice, that we had our own insurance. They have done this twice (since Vanderbilt took over)to us and each time we have had proof of our insurance sent previous to them adding insurance. Thankfully, even though it is not her department, Mrs. Smith was able to help clear this up as well.
