I made an order for tickets to a concert at the Allstate Arena in Chicago assuming they were re-sale tickets as TicketMaster didn't have any of the seats available on Vivid Seats. I specifically ordered e-tickets to make sure I would have the tickets in hand before showing up. I got an email very shortly after ordering to this tune:
"I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your recent order with Vivid Seats. At this time your order is being held for additional verification. In order to continue, we will need you to fill out and fax us a completed authorization form, which can be downloaded at:
http://www.vividseats.com/auth/OfficialAuthorizationForm.doc
Please fax or upload the completed form along with a copy of the front and back of the credit card and a government issued photo I.D to (866) 203-6177 or https://www.vividseats.com/account/verify
Please note that if the event takes place more than 24 hours from now, to select the Shipping via FedEx box only. Our company policy is to ship all tickets via FedEx unless the event is within 24 hours.
We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but it is a necessary precaution that helps fight internet fraud. If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (866) 848-8499. This is a time-sensitive issue, so please fax the form back to us as soon as possible so that we can get you the exact tickets you've requested. If that doesn't scream scam, I don't know what does... Though I wonder how many people would actually send everything someone needs to steal their identity in one clean fax or scan... I immediately called the number only to find that it was not a 24/7 line and I would have to call during business hours. Instead, I opted to leave a message as the automated guy says you can do by pressing 0. Too bad pressing 0 ends the call. The only other option was to press 9 in case of emergencies for events happening within 24 hours. I dial 9 and get the answering service of one, Matthew Baker. I leave him a curt message requesting that he call me back asap to cancel my order or I would be notifying the authorities. Let's see where this goes... I'll update this if I ever get a call or when I file a lawsuit.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or anxiety caused by our email. There are three factors which justify our request for additional verification 1) The billing address entered does not match that which is on file with the credit card company. 2) The tickets are to be sent via email delivery (we treat tickets like cash and therefore need to obtain a signature. Usually we collect the signature via a completed FedEx delivery, however, since tickets must be emailed, we need to seek a signature by another means.). 3) The dollar value attached to the order is relatively high and thus we must ensure in writing that the customer is agreeing to have data of such a high dollar value to be sent to their email address.
Vivid Seats operates in an industry that experiences a high frequency of online credit card fraud. To protect ourselves and credit card holders against this threat, in certain circumstances, such as those listed above, credit card authorization paperwork must be received prior to processing the order and formally charging the credit card. The purpose of the
authorization form is to verify that the credit card holder is indeed authorizing the transaction to be processed as indicated in the order. If we do not receive the necessary paperwork, the credit card cannot be charged and the order cannot be confirmed. Until this point Vivid Seats places an authorization hold on the funds which will be released if the requested paperwork is not received.
This all said, we do offer a service of great value, unlike many of our competitors we offer a full service event ticket
marketplace with an unparalleled level of customer support. Our offices are located in Chicago, Illinois and our business hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Saturday 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and Sunday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
