On March 7, 2007, I went to Vonage.com to begin new phone service. Online, my city did not appear. Therefore, I telephoned vonage. Up until the submit button was pressed by the rep and before an email was sent to me with my new phone number, I was continually guaranteed a local number. After I received my email, the number was for a city more than 150 miles from my area, which makes it a long distance number, not a local one. This call lasted about 30 minutes.

I immediately called Vonage back. The new rep I spoke with then tells me there are NO local numbers available for Elizabethtown KY (270 area code). I stated "Then why did the previous rep waste 30 minutes of my time after I repeatedly asked for a local number?". I then began to cancel my account which was just created 10 minutes prior. I was told that could not be done...that I would have to call back in the morning. This second call again lasted about 30 minutes.

I made my third call to Vonage, as instructed, on the morning of March 8, 2007. Then, I'm told my order is still in pending status and could not be cancelled. Again, this call lasted about 30 minutes. I was then told to call DHL delivery service myself and stop the shipment of the equipment.

I instructed the rep that if the charge was not reversed right now I would file a complaint with various agencies. That is why I'm currently writing to RipOffReport.

Vonage was deceptive in the sales pitch since they did not provide a local number, (please listen to the call records from Vonage, which will prove my stated info here). I could not cancel 10 minutes after I received an out of town number, 150 miles away in Oak Grove, KY.

Then, when I call to cancel again the next morning, I'm told my order is pending and it could not be cancelled and I was also told to telephone DHL and stop the shipment of the equipment myself.

Terms of Service were never upheld by Vonage in the first place

AUTHOR: Kevin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 25, 2007

I am the original ripoff report filer. On my 3rd attempt to call and cancel service for a number I never used and for a broken promise by Vonage that the number would be local, I was told to come back and check the status on the website. They're leaving it up to the consumer to fix their mistakes. I filed a complaint with the FCC (fed communications comm). Then and only then did Vonage cancel my service and refund my original fee for setup.

Also Vonage has a 30 day money back guarantee that they did not uphold in their own terms of service.

Luckily for me this issue is resolved, with the FCC's help. Vonage was in the wrong and they apologized in a letter to the FCC.

I'm lucky to be with SunRocket service who did offer a local number and also offer better customer service and lower prices compared to Vonage.

Thanks

First of off, it's SLANDER. Second of all the original report was not slander at all. This is a public board, he can air his grievances. He stated a factual problem he had. It's a legit one and he needs help, not empty threats from you.

Please refrain from bullying folks on this board.
