It wasn't long before I realized that the no holds payroll deposit was only at the branch where I opened the account, unfortunately not the most convenient location to my work and while my friend a long standing Wachovia customer received her $25.00 bonus I received none.

I went back to the branch where I opened the account to inquire about the promises that were made and not honored.  The particular customer service rep that opened my account was not there anymore.

When the new customer service rep told me that it was not policy to credit payroll checks without a hold on new accounts and couldn't offer an explaination for the delay in the $25.00 bonus I told him to just close the account I would use another bank.

I was informed if I closed a new account within 90 days that there would be a cancellation fee (I don't remember the amount I just remember I didn't care for the tactic).  I told him I didn't care what he did I wasn't going to be held hostage by Wachovia and I gave him my debit card and left.

Over a year has past and now I get a collection letter stating I owe this debt collection company $50.77 on behalf of Wachovia with the threat to take further legal action if not paid.

I will not be bullied or badgered by any corporation for closing an account!

Wachovia is one of the worst banks..

Some people will say all banks are the same..but if they experienced Wachovia for a while..they may change their stance...

What seems to have happened in your case if the report is accurate..that the bank did not honor what they promised you...but are threatening to take legal action against you for closing the account...yep..sounds about right.

Hope you can fight it. The only problem may be is that the bank may have in writing (that you signed) that there is a penalty for closing the account..but you may have nothing in writing that the bank promised to not delay your payroll deposit...or  that they owe you the $25.00 bonus, and if this is the case I don't know if you can win...may be better off just paying the 50 and change and consider it the BEST money you ever spent in your life..trust me getting away from that bank is worth more then 50 bucks..consider it a bargain.

However if you have any documentation stating they did not honor an agreement..fight it with all you have..they suck..that bank sucks.
