I purchased the extended warranty from Wanted Auto Protect (WAP) in 01/23/2014 for my BMW 325i. For 10 months the car ran well. Two weeks ago the engine heating light came on. I pulled the car into a parking lot and called the tow truck. Had it towed to a reliable, well established and well known mechanic in North Miami. Danny, the manager told me to give him WAP's and my information, and he will take care of the rest. He is very used to doing this.
Well, that's when all the "fun" started. Danny told WAP that the car overheated. That was the first mistake. See, WAP will take whatever you tell them and turn it against you. That is what they do to not have to pay to get your car fixed.
WAP told Danny that they will not cover the cost since the car overheated. Well, that's what happens when the water pump fails. So, I had to step in and explain that the car was stopped as soon as the light came on, and that it was towed to the mechanic. After a few days, they decided to pay. But that is not all....
My deductible is $100 and I had to pay $250. What? Yes, they ripped me off $150.
Here comes more. Close to a month ago, I started to hear a noise that got louder as the days went by. Well, Danny said that it was the rear wheel bearings, and they needed to be replaced. This was the same time the car was towed because of the water pump.
Again I had to call WAP, since they rejected Danny's explanation. I told them what happened, and they said they would not pay since I was negligent and waited too long to fix the problem.
Now, tell me the money I spent on extended warranty from WAP wasn't worth every penny....

Middleman at it again

I received a mailer alluding to extended vehicle repair coverage. There was absolutely no company name or address listed, just a phone number. In reading the mailer, the first name in the small print was “Repair Defense Network”, listed phone 877-394-6777. As it turned out, this “Repair Defense Network” exists as a middleman in selling a contract for their choice of 5 or so different companies that actually issue the “contract”. Any difficulties are then handled by whoever they sold the contract to. Who you're actually “signed up with” is not known until they forward the contract to the buyer. . This is absolutely the worst means of buying most anything. The sweet talking sales person has absolutely NO connection to the company or individual doing the actual work. Any future problems are not addressable with the reseller who sold the contract. To wit: the “middleman”. . In this type of sale, all a person is doing is adding another middleman to share in the profits of the contract. The problem is compounded by the fact these “extended service” companies have a terrible record of fulfilling the terms of the contract anyway. By the time your premiums are split to yet another company that is contracted to do nothing, lots of luck when dealing with whoever they set you up with. It would be a certainty your contract would be sold to whoever would give the best “kick-back” to Repair Defense Network. NOT the “company that is the best match for the customer's needs”. (as they allude)
