routed to a number that was the wrong department. That department forwarded her to another department -- also the wrong department. She ended up leaving a message with yet another department they forwarded her to. Of course, there is a "disclosure" WF has that informs customers it can, without notice apparently, take everything from a WF account to pay off another WF account. They're faxing her that disclosure. This is even worse than the "overdraft" practices of

Christiana makes a good point...

The banks are not your friend..but some may be "friendlier" then others, or at least claim to be.
You might want to consider a local bank or credit union that typically will work with you on a more personal level..and may have more fair and customer "friendly" policies.
Here is an ad from a local bank for example...
Welcome to Schuyler State Bank. Schuyler State Bank is dedicated to providing customers with the friendliest, easiest and most convenient banking experience possible. Because we're locally owned, we're able to make faster decisions and provide customers with a quicker turnaround. Schuyler State Bank is a community state bank which was chartered in 1967 and is owned by Schuyler Bancorp Inc.
If you do a search here or online for the above bank for example..you will not find a SINGLE complaint lodged here or anywhere. If you search on this site for Wells Fargo... 1344 reports come up as of this morning. If you google "Wells Fargo complaint"...661,000 results come up as of this morning.
Now I can't state with any degree of certainty that this particular local bank I use as an example would have done anything different or not in your situation..but they are making the claim they are friendly, and have not a single complaint against them...chartered in 1967.
I used to be a customer of Wachovia/Wells Fargo and I actually found the tellers to be VERY friendly. But if there is ever an issue that requires personal assistance or attention for any kind of recourse or problem..it seemed anyone above teller authority was anything but "friendly". Just something to consider.
I will not post the specific problems I had with WF as I do not want to hijack your post..but you can do a search on this site at the top right side of this page..and read for yourself.

If she had another account with WF, then how did she not know she had a debt with them? And as far as the accounting firm goes, SHE is responsible for her debts, not someone else. Putting the blame on them won't cut the mustard. You say she missed payments, yet when they try and get what is owed to them its the banks fault? They loaned it, she needs to pay up. Late is late. The bank is not their to be your friend. I wish more people would realize that. They are there to make money, and she more than likely signed the bank the right to collect if/when she defaulted on the loan. People need to read loan agreements, as well, but rarely do.

It is called 'right to offset'. All banks have that clause in there consumer agreement. If you do not pay a bill you owe them they will come get it out of your account. They figure if you owe them money and you have money in your account you can pay it......willingly or not.
