We went to the dentsit in Oct 2007 because Western Dental was listed as a participating provider with Delta Premier Dental on our Plan. I only had preventive services (xray, cleaning). My copay for preventive work is $0.00 with no deductible. My hubby had to have a special cleaning and some fillings done. His bill was around $1500.00. They wanted us to sign a payment agreement before they even sent it to insurance. We did because they had already started to fill the cavitiy. Our insurance has paid them. We've paid our $50.00 deductible, buthaven't sent another payment becuase they want payment in full. They are trying to bill the difference between what the insruance paid and their full price. Our Dental Insurance said that because they are participating providers that they MUST accept the allowable amounts from the insurance and cannot "balance bill". In th emeantime, Western Dental has sent $250.00 of my husband's account to collections (We've already paid $50.00 so the balance should only be $200.00 and they will not accept $200.00 onlythe $250.00.
AND>>>they sent $79.00 to collection for me - eventhough my EOB fromt he insurance says I owe nothing! I don't know what else to do short of taking them to small claims court or contacting the attorney general. Delta Dental even tried to settle the matter, threateneing to cancel or hold any furthre payments to this office, and they hung up on Delta Dental!!!

I have been there too, it will get worse

I had a similar experience with far greater problems and costs. They pulled all of my teeth and made me a pair of dentures. The pair they made were too big to even fit on my gums, so I refused them. I then called my insurance company. My insurance company refused to send payment until I had a pair that I was happy with. Western Dental refused to make another pair until the insurance company paid them. I went 8 weeks completely without teeth until I just gave up and went to another dentist.
I had paid my share for all work done, even though it was a nightmare that is another story. What I did not pay for is the dentures I never received. 6 months later I got a bill from Western dental for $800.00 due on the contract for the dentures. I wrote a letter back stating I never received any dentures, so therefore I owe nothing. The following week I got a bill for 2500 dollars and a threat to report this on my credit. I called them and told them I never received any dentures so I didn't owe the money. They said they would look into it. then came the following bills: 150.00 2350.00 500.00 1750.00 in that order, by this time I was turned over to collections. They also kept billing my insurance. I called the collection agency and said I was being billed for services and appliances I had not received. They said that it didn't matter whether or not Western Dental provided the services in the contract, the only thing that mattered was the fact that I signed agreeing to pay that amount. 4 years later, I am still getting bills, and it is still on my credit report.
