After going to a different dentist, for whom I will also file a complaint here, who messed up a routine filling job, I went to Western Dental. They tried to tell me that I would have to pay for a new set of x-rays until I was able to get the truth from the Denti-Cal worker I spoke to. Then, after getting the okay to do two root canals (two seperate procedures on each tooth when they could have waited for work on both teeth to be approved) they only put in temporary fillings and no amalgam crowns--which they knew Denti-Cal would approve, but they were holding out for the porcelin crowns that they admitted would not be approved and I would have to pay for.

That was several months ago, and I still am waiting for them to let me know when to come in for the amalgam crowns. Then, at my first pre-root canal visit, they had me sign a paper saying that I was "satisfied" with their treatment; I was pressured by the dentist saying that I should "do something nice" for him by filling out this form which basically, now that I consider it, I should never have signed. That is why I am coming to this site to make my complaints known.

Right now, my two teeth are in pain. I can't chew most foods on that side of my mouth for fear of having my tooth enamel crack. I am going to another dentist instead of foolishly trusting them again. If I'm lucky, I won't lose those teeth.

I Don't Think it is Western Dental's fault

AUTHOR: Sonnie - (U.S.A.)

Denti-cal normally only approves one major procedure, like a root canal, per visit. This is to prevent dentists from overdiagnosing and doing too much work.

There is no such thing as an amalgam crown. There are metal crowns, but the porcelin crown they recommended is more cosmetically pleasing if your tooth is visible when you smile. Otherwise you'll look like a metal-mouth.

A temporary filling after a root canal is standard. You should get a permanent filling with the crown. If your teeth are in pain, you should go back and have them do an "open and medicate" procedure where they remove the temorary filling, put medication inside the tooth and reseal it. That is one reason why the filling is temporary. Root canals are done becuase there is an infection or abcess at the base of the tooth, and they take time to drain and heal.
