After a 90 minute tour, which lasted over 5 hours, my wife an I tried unsuccessfully to tell them that we could not afford what they wanted, they kept coming down to a lower and lower price, until the found one we thought we could afford. We were rushed through a very intense meeting with a realtor, and then handed a briefcase for all the crap they gave us. This was on the 27 of June, 2004

No one ever mentioned that we had a "cooling off period" in case we changed our mind. We received an invatation to a breakfast for the new owners the next day.

Later that day, while we were having second thoughts, we found out that we could cancel the contract within ten days. We did it right then.

Westgate had made arrangements with us for $200.00 down, and the remainder in three predated checks. We requested that Westgate send us the additional three checks and return our deposit.

The sent the checks, then they started all the crap about getting out deposit back. First the said it would be mailed within 21 days. this was around the 10th of July.

Then I received a letter telling me that they required proof that my bank had paid they deposit. I complied with this latest requirement by fax on the day I got the letter.

Today is the 30th of July, and I called to find out about my check. I was told that at this time that I would be charged $68.00 for the Breakfast I went to. I asked them about the 90 minute (five hour) tour, and was told that I had been free to leave at any time, and they were not responsible for any of my time that had been wasted.

Do the math, if they do this to everyone who cancels a contract, and I am sure I am not the only one, they are making a killing. They kept my money for the amount of time that they did, and I would be willing to bet that it was in an account that makes money on interest.

So they kept my money for almost 30 days, then charged me an addidional $68.00 for a breakfast I could have gotten at Ponderosa, which was just across the road, for my entire famil, for half of what they charged.

We need to get the word out on this organization. This system needs to stop.

Thanks for your forum

escrow account

AUTHOR: Anthony - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 25, 2007

When ever you leave a deposit for the purchase of real estate or timeshare, that money goes into a non interest bering escrow account with a law firm.(i dont want to say which, but a large local firm) so no westgate is not making a killing on your $68. oh by the way i am in the process for looking for a new car and i went to toyota and spent 7 hrs at the dealership. I found a car i liked and we negotiated and negotiated and could not come to terms. Does Toyota owe me anything for my time? No!

need help to cancel the puurcshasing contract

AUTHOR: Alex - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 23, 2005

I and my wife were pressed to purchase a TS like other posters during our visit to Orlando. Later when we get back to California, we second-thought about TS after we visited Ripoff reports.com ( thank god).We found out we have a 10 days cool-off period to cancel our contract and so we immediately send a cancellation letter in registered mail to their Ocoee office ! Now my concern is how to proceed from here? Any suggestion will be appreciated!

some bad experience to share: 1.zip code to mail in the cancellation is invalid. Post office said no such zip code of 34791. so we have to use 34761 instead. 2. The 10 days cool-off period was never mentioned 3.The CD supposed to hold all the "scanned document" is only a Westgate promotional CD. The copies of all signed documents were secretly hided inside the briefcase provied by WG.

Westgate - Ripoff Investigation

AUTHOR: Sandra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 03, 2005

If you have been scammed or ripped off by Westgate, you should file a complaint with the Attorney General's office in Tennessee, Florida, and each state that Westgate has "sold" you a timeshare. It will only be through everyone getting together to complain will Westgate be held accountable for their scams and ripoffs.

Same rip-off, different day

AUTHOR: Will - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 31, 2004

The above rip-off is almost identical to what happened to us. The hard pressure sell - always a new, lower price and lots of 'free' gifts to sign. We asked specifically about the time to refuse and agreed only because we knew we would cancel. We tried to cancel, but found out later we didn't call the 'right' number. After 5 months of hassling, we finally got our deposit back less $250. We are now fighting fo the last $250 and the promises from them never add up.

This company survivies by screwing people over. If someone from Westgate EVER offers anything, run as fast as you can away from these scam artists.
