We were lured to attend this supposed 90-minute pitch, which turned out to last more than 6 hours. The salesman used high-pressured and deceptive tactics and we finally walked out with the purchase.

I regretted the deal right after closing, the call customer service a couple of days later to ask if I could back off, all I was told was lies. luckily I was able to find out on the internet and recind within the cool-off period.

my complains are:

1. we were never told there was a recission period, even I called to ask, they still tried to cheat.
2. the contract did state the recission period but it was hidden in a very secret pocket in the binder, I believe they did it on purpose and hope new owners never find out until the recission period has past.
3. I was charged for $100 for breakfast and binder after I cancelled the contract, it did write so in black and white in the contract, but I hope other consumers be aware.

in the contract, it says

cancellation of contract. In the event the Purchaser cancels the contract during a ten(10) day cancellation period. the Developer will refund to the Purchaser the total amount of all payments made by the Purchaser under the Contract, reduced by the proportion of any Contract Benefits the Purchaser has actually received under the Contract prior to the effective date of the cancellation. Contract benefits shall include, but not be limited to, the videotape and exchange directory delivered to purchaser at point of sale. If these items are not returned upon cancellation, $50.00 shall be dedected from the refund. Occupancy prior to rescission for which no separate payment is made is a contract benefit with an agreed upon value of $200.00 per night. Any meals provided to purchaser after execution of a contract shall be a contract benefit with an agreed upon value of $15.00 for adult and $8.00 for children(11 years of age and younger) per meal, and any attraction tickets provided to purchaser after execution of a contract shall be a contract benefit with an agreed unopn value of the retail value of the ticket. The refund shall be made within twenty(20) days of demand therefor by Purchaser, or within five(5) days after receipt of funds from the Purchaser's cleared check, whichever is later.

So if you are lured by "free tickets" to go to the presentation and then cancel the contract, you will be charged for these "free tickets", be aware!!!

Defending Timeshare (Joy I don't feel for you)

AUTHOR: dishrus - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, November 15, 2010

Hi Joy:

I know this report is old. But after reading your post I have a constructive critisizim as a timeshare owner not at Westgate for a matter of fact I own 6 of them.

1) It was very selfish of you, to even take 90 minutes not to mention 6 hrs of your family time while on vacation. Just for some free tickets and breakfast.

2) For a mere $100 in tickets, you waisted a whole day for your family. You call them deceptive, you say they use tactics that was high pressured.

3) The deception, was on you, by knowing full well that they will try to sell you a Timeshare, nothing is free in life. You went in there under the perception that you want to buy, you want to take there presentation and at the end of the 90 minutes. You going to tell them no.

4) Do you actually think, these sales people going to hand you 100 + of attraction tickets, because they like you. Their job is to sale you, by any means. and If it take 6 hrs, then he did his job.

5) I don't know what you do for a leaving, but I would to see you invite people to your place of business by offering them a free gift and you don't get no sales from it over the years and we would see how long you stay in business

6) please spare me your buyer remorse crap, you deceived them, by eating there food, stay at there place, received gift from them for been an owner.

7) the fault is on you, for been so cheap to take precious time from your family on a vacation.

8) If you were so broke, you should a never been on vacations. Broke people don't vacations

9) Obviously, you dont see what the biggest problem was. The problem was you were spending way to much on your Hotel room, in 2005, you probably pay $700 to $1000 in a 7 days vacations. While you have owner like me that pay $154 for a week of vacation or I stay free at my resort, they even give us free meals. So the money I save I use it for Attractions tickets. I don't have to sit there an do a 90 minute presentation, that turn into 6 hrs.

10) Best advice, I can give you. You need a Timeshare and Stop waisting your money and time by renting a hotel. Try owning one then you will realize, how much you will save on vacation.

Since I own mines. I rent them out to people like you, to pay for my HOA and Taxes. I love people like yourself. in the last 10 yrs, Me and my family have the 10 great yrs of vacations. With no worry about, attractions, food.

So Joy, Thank You for been so blind and consume of getting over these sales people. I applaud that sales person. Great job.

I have stayed at Westgate, I can tell you first hand, They are professional and there goals are customer service. That If you were honest with them. Not Been under handed, like you were trying to do.

That will teach you and every other Moochers, that think these resort are here to give you free ticket.

Why don't your try that in your own jobs. See what boss will do or if its your own company see how long you will be in business.

I am proud to say, I do go to these presentation, so I can find a better way to vacation with my family. And what I learn when looking for a Timeshare are the 3 Golden rules:

1) Use: I can there resort, amenities and activities, and a resort with more than 1 home resorts

2) Exchange power: I find out from personal experience that Orlando is the most demanded location in the world. So owning a Timeshare in Orlando, that have more then 1 resort, the more the merrier, Its a high demanded resort. So Westgate is on top of list for my 7 resort.

3) A resort that give you a deed, next to the #1 location in the world Disney, Universal, Sea world, And am finding out there is more to come. As anyone knows, a deeded real estate is only base on 3 things. Location, Location, Location. And Westgate have the location, exchange power and the use.

I hope after 5 yrs of spending, 1000 a week to rent astay in a hotel you wise up and own your own vacation.

All timeshares in the state of florida have a recission period and this regulated by FREC or Florida Real Estate Commision. In the contract in BIG BLACK BOLD LETTERS, there is a paragraph that tells you exactly what, where, and how to cancel. I'm afraid if you missed that then you obviously did not READ the contract. so before you make outragous claims learn to READ carefully contract that you agreed to and signed.

PS:ITS 10 DAYS, 7 MORE DAYS THAN YOU WOULD HAVE IF YOU WERE BUYING A REGULAR HOME!!!

PSS: JUST LIKE THE $100 FOR BREAKFAST THAT YOU SAID WAS IN BLACK AND WHITE IN THE CONTRACT !!!

Joy, You're One of the Lucky Ones!

Even with having deductions made to your refund, you are still one of the lucky ones. You managed to get away. Most people don't realize they have a problem until after the 10-day rescission period. Then it's too late. We've been owners for about 17 years now and Westgate didn't suck then as it does now. The promise of a free breakfast or free tickets meant just that. I could be wrong but I don't think Westgate punished anyone for canceling a contract back then. I'm sure you will agree that $15 per adult for what is served is a rip-off in itself.

To anyone considering attending the 90-minute sales presentation for the free breakfast or free park tickets it's simply not worth the hassle. However, if you do choose to attend, keep in mind you are only obligated to hear them out for 90 minutes and not a minute more. Let the sales rep know you are giving him/her 90 minutes to convince you, then you're out of there. Put the pressure back on them. After 90 minutes, ask for whatever was promised, then GET UP AND LEAVE. The sales rep will probably say his supervisor will need to sign off on the paperwork first. That's just another tactic for someone else to have a shot at you. Stand your ground. Three to five hours seem to be standard for must complaints I've read.
