I bought the game and it says on the box "First Month of play included" Once I installed the game I had to create a account four times because the site kept coming up with page not found. This was an error from their web site and it sent me back to the very beginning of the account creation. Which means re entering the game number and all the information reguarding the account, this happened five times! Called tech support on non 800 number and waited fifteen minutes with no one answering the phone hung up! Finally got to the last page of the log in and I got a message that I was a "slow poke" and had to do it all over again, this was the sixth time!
Even though it says on the box first month free you have to enter a credit card or buy a game card and enter the number when you try to get to the game. Meaning you have to pay again after you buy the game, NOT right when it CLEARLY says first month FREE! This company is a RIP OFF! Do not buy this game unless you don't mind getting taken over the coals! They LIE!

First month free

AUTHOR: Pyrite - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Sounds like a combination of bad luck and ignorance to me.

1) There are periods when the web sites for WoW are slow and possibly inaccessible. This usually occurs during scheduled server maintenance and game patch periods. There are something like 10 million subscribers worldwide and when the game servers are down those people all try to peruse the web site. The high traffic can cause crashes. However, the other 25 days a month it works just fine.

2) The first month IS free. However, in an effort to combat hackers, cheaters, and gold sellers Blizzard does require payment information. This credit card will NOT be charged until the trial period is over. Even then I believe you have to take action by choosing a 1, 3, 6, or 12 month billing plan. If you fail to sign up your account is simply deactivated until such time as you do.

Credit Card or Game Card requirement is a standard industry practice

AUTHOR: James - (Canada)

POSTED: Monday, August 13, 2007

I'm sorry to hear about your registration difficulties. There are times when the game's account management website is unavailable due to maintenance or other issues. In general, downtime is usually, but not always, posted on the World of Warcraft Customer Service forums when it occurs. As a player myself, I sympathize with not being able to play a game I have paid for because of technical problems or downtime.

You should however be aware that the credit card and/or game card requirement is a standard industry practice with MMO type games when you buy a boxed version from a store shelf, especially popular AAA titles that are frequently the target of spammers and other unscrupulous individuals looking to make a buck. There are some games that don't have this requirement, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

In general, if you want to try a MMO game, for free might I add, look for a trial option on the game's website. Usually trial versions do not require any kind of payment method, but may have restrictions in place to prevent harassment or abuse.

Also, if you do choose to use a credit card subscription, your card will not be charged until the free month has elapsed. Once your account is created, you can at any time cancel the credit card subscription from the Account Management website. You can even do this immediately after creating your account, leaving you with 30 days free playtime at the end of which you would not be charged.
