Compass Bank charged me two NSF fees. First of all let me start off by saying that I "floated" a check but, I made a cash night deposit to cover the check I wrote. I had to pay my insurance which was 137.83. There was 117.00 dollars in my account so I made a night deposit for 36.00. I wrote the check on 5/20 after 5:00pm. I was told by the bank that all cash deposits go through first. Yeah right! It showed that my check cleared 5/20 which is a lie because the banks were closed when I wrote the check. I know I did wrong but the bank is just trying to make money. The cash deposit should have cleared first. Banks are unfair money hungry liars, especially Compass bank.

Learn how to manage your checking account period
Keep a check register and never rely on atm or online balances they are incorrect
Take your monthly statement, turn it over and there is a ledger for debits and credits - USE IT
This is no fault on the banks part - It is your fault

"...First of all let me start off by saying that I "floated" a check but.."
- There is no "but". You floated a check on funds that were not available in your account..Case Closed. So who was "unfair" and a "liar"? On the plus side at least you admitted you did it.
By the way you can "write" a check after 5pm, but if the merchant submits it electronically or through their nightly deposits, depending on the cut-off times it can still be posted with a 5/20 date.
