I am disgusted and at a total loss. My mother-in-law, father-in-law, and their three grandchildren are being beaten down by Compass. They are missionaries in Mexico. They receive very limited funds to carry out their mission and maintain their living situation. Recently they went to an atm to pull out $500 to use as they needed for food and other living costs. The atm told them it could not dispense money at that time. To their horror they later found out the bank had debited the amount despite them not receiving any money at all.
They contacted the bank, and as of now no one has come to the location to confirm the problem and on top of that they have charged them over $250 in overdraft fees. I know that since the location is in Mexico it may be difficult to do this, but they are charging them while this is going on. These good people are being trampled on and kicked in the face by this heartless company. As I said they have very little money to begin with.
This has thrown them into a very dangerous situation. Compass will not raise a finger to help them and is willing placing them in irreversible debt. My husband and I are sending them everything we can, but I have no idea what to do. I fear my family is sitting in a foreign country with little to no money and possibly running out of time. They will not recover from this is Compass keeps charging them to death. I need help and I have no idea where to go.

Once again, you have proven that your ramblings here make absolutely no sense. It's almost like that time my dog walked across my keyboard. Maybe one day you will invest in education, and who knows.. maybe even write a coherent sentence or 2! =D

Due to a merger Compass bank is a subsidiary of BBVA Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argenteria one of the largest banks in Spain and Mexico. I seriously doubt that your family is being discriminated against because they live in Mexico. Do your homework before making ignorant accusations. They are following guidelines to process the dispute, if they gave immediate credit every time someone disputed something they would go bankrupt because 90% of the disputes are fraudulent. I do hope that the situation is resolved for your family but next time you may want to try speaking to a manager and give them the opportunity to help you before you assume no one is trying to help. It is not like they can just send someone at the drop of the hat to Mexico to verify the information and it may be that the owner of the ATM in Mexico is the real Rip Off Artist. Perhaps you should have posted the ATM owner on here not Compass Bank.

Well I finally got through to someone by using a different method:

You have to rattle the cages at the top apparently. They are refunding the over draft fees. Thank god for one actual human at that company that decided to give a crap. We are not out of the woods yet though. Hopefully they will handle this right and not try to pull another $500 out from under my mother and father-in-law.

No it is not their atm, but we have done all they asked. They sent forms to fill out and all things were done as asked. They said they would fund the money lost until the investigation is concluded and refund any over draft fees that may happen in the mean time. Three week later there are $250 worth of over draft and no funding to help them. They are screwing them over. I know they have to go through procedure. I work at a large company too. But they have every ability to take care of their loyal customers while this is figured out. In fact they always fund the fraudulent charges back to the account until the final result. Why are these people to be treated so different? Just because they live in Mexico they think it is ok to screw them over?

The mafia has known for decades that the poor are an easy target to exploit and make money from....Corporate America is just catching up...Yes, your relatives probably made a mistake in managing their funds...and the banks are making billions of dollars off these mistakes.

Was the ATM a Compass bank ATM?
AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

i am guessing it probably wasn't. That would complicate and delay a disbute.
Your MIL and FIL should send or fax the disbute in writing if they have not already done so.
Just calling in gets things started but there should be a follow up in writing.
Make sure that they detail everything. What happened, what time of day, etc. etc.
The bank has to follow certain regulations when investigating disbutes. Being the ATM is in a foreign country may complicate things a bit. I doubt their intention is to beat them down. Once everything is in order for them to investigate, the bank usually issues a provisional credit as well as a refund of any fees incurred resulting from the disbute. Once the disbute has been completed they should recive a letter informing them of the results.
Good luck.
