Compass will sometime hold small bus corp checks out of the blue for 5 to 10 bus days. They have cashed these checks from this fortune 500 comp 17 times with no prob and then decided to start holding all of them. I closed the account turned my checkbooks in at this time and was told the account was closed. I had this account for 10 years with no od's.

A $3 email account came through on the check card that was "closed" and reopened the account with a 38 over draft charge and 7 dollars a day for overdrwnfree. 9 months later its 1254 bucks over drawn and i have compass collections calling 7 days a week staring at 8 in the morn even on sunday. I have talked to everybody from compass you can think of and nobody cares. Very very bad business practices.

when the charge came through to overdraft your account, you would have received notification from the bank about the fee. You would have continued to receive statements on this account showing the negative balance. Why did you let it go for 9 months before looking at the account?

Hmm. Well, as far as holding your checks, banks can and will hold checks. That is common practice. Banks that dont hold checks will soon be out of business due to fraud losses. In re a charge coming through on your closed account, if you had a pending checkcard authorization at time you requested closure, that charge has to post through first before the account is closed. You cant just make a purchase and then close your account before the merchant gets paid. Come on , man. Dont try to cheat the system. Because this charge came through and you had no money in your account, it went negative and your bank charged you neg balance fees. Now you will just have to clear it up as best you can.
