Over the last several weeks I have received dozens of calls seemingly from 206-777-1972, and today the caller identified himself with Convergent Outsourcing to advise that they'd stop calling if I would provide them the last four digits of my social security number to confirm that I was not their collection target. I ended up providing the information, and they confirmed that I was not the wanted individual and further told such mistakes "happen." I felt as if I were extorted into providing my personal information in order to stop the bothersome calls. It appears as if the business model of Convergent Outsourcing is to call all people with the same name, and then by process of elimination hope to eventually find their intended target regardless of how many innocent folks are annoyed with repeated calls in the meantime. It's like they're shooting fish in a barrel, and just hoping they hit the right one. This is shameful, and I filed complaints -- as I encourage others to do with similar experiences -- both with the Attorney General for Washington State in which Convergent Outsourcing has an office and with the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Apparently A Frequent Mistake By Convergent

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 12, 2016

Convergent Outsourcing apparently calls the wrong person with the same name quite frequently because on its website's hompage is a "consumer assistance" link about whether it's "calling in error."  (And yes, I've taken a screen grab.)  I submit that if Convergent Outsourcing is calling in error so often to offer corrective action to aggrieved consumers on its homepage, then there's nothing "reasonable" in doing its job to find purported debters which entails the sweeping practice of repeated calls to innocent parties.

That is their job...

While I am not defending what they are doing or saying that it is right.  But it is their job is to attempt to find people who owe companies money.  Where they are legally allowed to do it as it could be "reasonable" that they are calling the person with the same name.

However, as for giving out your personal information.  Let me just give you something to think about.  How would they know that the last for SSN numbers you gave them actually belong to you?
