Today I was going to pay my cell phone bill when I saw that Cricket has started to charge a $10 reconnect fee, even though my phone was just cut off late last night. I call to ask a representative if I could use the new CricketPaygo cards they have in the stores. She said yes, and told me to just save my receipt. When I realized that when trying to add the minutes, it didn't work I then called back and a representative tells me, "oh I'm sorry, you were given the wrong information but you can call the store or cricketpaygo dept and they can give you a refund. I called the store, they said no. I called back to cricket to get the paygo# and they claim to not have it, but then the rep says "Well I'm a Paygo rep so I can help you" I'm thinking at this point that I am dealing with a bunch of idiots that just got off the short yellow bus. I kept being told how it was my fault because I've been a customer for so long that I should have known that I could not use the card. I explained to them that when I became a Cricket customer they didn't even have this service, so how would know that. I then then explained that because I didn't know, I called and asked and because a representative gave me the wrong information I just lost my money. NO ONE was willing to help me not even the 2 supervisors I spoke to, not to mention they barely spoke english. They just kept telling me it was my fault and the last supervisor hung up in my face when I tried to explain to her that I did not need her read me a long list of account activities, I just needed her to handle the issue at hand. She accused me of cursing at her when I did not and proceeded to say that she would give me her badge# so that I could make a complaint but then hung up in my face. I have been a Cricket customer for 3 years, I have even gotten all of my friends and most of my family to switch over to their service and all of this was over $15. I couldn't afford to lose the $15 because it was all I had. Why wouldn't they just give me a credit of $15 on my account? They put me through hours of being called stupid and being hung up on because they didn't want to lose $15. This is what I get for bringing them business, never having any issues in the past three years, and being a loyal customer. I was blown away by the fact they chose to lose business rather than give a $15 credit.

For Clarification the $10 fee is applied not when your service is suspended or "cut off" but when you are late paying your bill. Usually your service won't be suspended or "cut off" until its at least more that 1 day late. So in theory you don't need to be "cut off" in order to be charged the $10 fee.

One of the drawbacks to having no contract is that Cricket has to be strict on when customers pay their bill. No payment = No service.

PAYGO is a VERY new product with Cricket. So its really no surprise that few employees really know the tricky details of the service (like taking a regular monthly service plan and turning it into a paygo plan)

One suggestion I would make is to call 1-800 Cricket and say that you want to cancel the service. They will transfer you to a lead representative who will ask you why you want to cancel. If you say that you had a bad experience and usually (but not always) they will offer some credits to stay with Cricket.

Also if you have this issue in future try a Bridge payment, its $20 ($17 plus a $3 fee) per line and will get you a 7 day extension. After the 7 days you will pay your total bill minus your bridge payment ($17).

Make sure you go into the store rather than deal with the customer service reps over the phone. Also try to use the same store (if you like them) for all your cricket related transactions/issues. Most stores are independent so you will deal with the same person and will be better able to help with these tough situations.
