Cricket Wireless SIM swap fraud caused $9,000 theft and loss of business number for 6 days.Dallas Texas

On May 13, 2025, my mobile number—registered with Cricket Wireless (a subsidiary of AT&T)—was stolen in a SIM swap fraud. Without my knowledge or authorization, my phone number (ending in 9934) was transferred to another device.

This resulted in over $9,000 being stolen from my bank account due to unauthorized access through 2FA messages. More critically, I lost access to my number for over 6 days, and my small business was completely paralyzed as this is my only business line and most clients depend on this number.

I visited four Cricket Wireless stores, spoke to multiple managers, and was told only they can override the PIN — but no one helped. I made more than 10 calls to customer service, many of which were dropped, and my most recent Tier 2 support call promised a callback that never came.

I escalated the issue through all available legal and consumer protection channels:

• NY Consumer Protection
• Public Utility Commission of Texas

Despite all of this, there has been no resolution or acknowledgment from Cricket Wireless or AT&T.

I am seeking immediate restoration of my number, accountability for negligence, and awareness for other consumers that this carrier may not be taking proper steps to protect customer identity or respond to fraud emergencies.
