I called Direct TV April, 2012 to enquire about their service.
I was told the DVR/HD was free so I said I would take it.
At the end of our discussion the rep told me my monthly bill would be $29.99 and I said "fine".

My monthly bills were for $49.99.
I called Direct TV to ask why the bills were so much more than I agreed to pay.
She said the DVR/HD was not free.
I said that in that case I didn't want it and to remove it.
She said it would be an additiional $160.00 to send a man out to change out the receiver.
I was dumfounded that she had told me a bald faced lie and that I was expected to pay for this.

After mulling it over for a few weeks I called DTV again and told them to cancel my service because they had given me misleading informatiion.

The rep said that they would charge me an early termination fee of $350.00.
I asked her why I wasn't told this before I agreed to accept their service.
She said that by agreeing to take their service that was the same as signing their "Contract".
This "Contract" is found on line after you say  you will take their service.

Just about everything the rep told me was misleading or blatently untrue.  I thought I was getting good information from her and now I'm stuck in a contract I didn't know existed until it was too late.

After fretting about it for a few days I decided my best course was to pay them so I could get rid of them.
I called them and offered to pay them $10.00 monthly until the entire fee was satisfied.
I told them it was the best I could do and would they work with me on this as it's my only option.
They said you have to pay the full amount within 21 days.
I said I can't.  I was then told that they would take it out of my credit card that they have on file. Either that or my checking account.
I had anticipated something like this because I had lost trust in them.  I had withdrawn authorization for them to take payments from my accounts.  They said as long as they had the numbers on file they could use them and they didn't need my authorization.

I told them that since they didn't want to work with me and accept my offer of payment, even though I don't feel I owe them a dime because of their misleading business practices, I wouldn't be able to pay them and they could initiate whatever proceedings they felt they needed to.

I expect the next person I hear will be someone from a collection agency.

I feel trapped in a web of deceit and no matter what I do it's going to cost me a lot of money.

I emailed DTV and told them about all this and a couple of days later I received an email from them stating that they were very sorry I had a bad experience with their company but be that as it may I was obligated to pay the termination fee.

The things their reps tell you is not what is in their contract and I'm pretty sure they know it.
