To put it mildly direc tv has been a nightmare since day one. I was under contract and had no choice but to deal with it. However we recently moved and scheduled the equipmentr to be reinstalled at our new location. Unfortunatly the HOA in neighborhood does not allow dishes to be placed in the yard, and there was no line of sight from the house. The technician made me aware off this and let me know he would report this to the office.
When I called in to verify the information given to me was correct I was told the complete opposite(no surprise). I was told very harshly by operator ID #100333255 that I would have to pay a 300.00 early termination fee. I said absolutley not and asked to speak to a supervisor... she offered no help. To sum it up they cant get line of sight from an approved location on the property and still want to charge me. I could go on and on but you get the point. All I want is to treated fairly, the wont happen at direc tv> My advise stay away.

Direct TV Adhesion Contract
AUTHOR: Cl - (U.S.A.)

We've all done it. signed those long contracts with the tiny typed print, when we bought a car, got a loan, signed a lease... unless there is room for negotiation or adjustments to the agreement, you signed an Adhesion Contract.
http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Adhesion+Contract
A type of contract, a legally binding agreement between two parties to do a certain thing, in which one side has all the bargaining power and uses it to write the contract primarily to his or her advantage.
An example of an adhesion contract is a standardized contract form that offers goods or services to consumers on essentially a "take it or leave it" basis without giving consumers realistic opportunities to negotiate terms that would benefit their interests. When this occurs, the consumer cannot obtain the desired product or service unless he or she acquiesces to the form contract.
HOWEVER, Many adhesion contracts are Unconscionable; they are so unfair to the weaker party that a court will refuse to enforce them. Such as the situation not being "your" fault, but more similar to an act of G'od" , namely, not being allowed to install the dish.
Write them letters, send e-mails, - save everything - record everything - telephone calls, (you can not tape a telephone call, but you can put it on speaker and have a witness write down everything that is said - ask them "nicely" to address your problem, then if they still refuse - get a lawyer, or start doing your legal research... If they are billing your bank or credit card, go to the bank or call the credit card company and report the charges.
We too have been battling DTV, although over different issues, and we know that this company is a rip-off. They use bait & switch advertising, the quality of the "promised" service is sub-par, they actually "threatened" my 83 year old mother, and yes their billing practices could be compared to a boiler room operation. Where is the Leverage team, when you need one?!
Good luck to you. More people should stand up against them. Keep fighting back, never give up, never give in.

False, DTV blows

I have never had the service but I have solicited for them as a third party.
I would NEVER EVER get DTV.
I was one of those annoying people in the Cingular (att) stores showing you pricing on bellsouth and direct TV products, we gave interested customers the prices, then called the service provider to continue setup of the accounts if the customer wanted to switch. When someone said they wanted DTV, we called the DTV reps, who then were SUPPOSED to tell the customers that by agreeing to instillation that they are essentially verbally signing a contract.
Want to guess how many customer service reps "forgot" that part? Plenty. I have delt with TOO many people coming back into an Cingular store looking for ME thinking I was the person that signed them up, even though I was only a 3rd party that showed them prices and then put them on the phone with the rep. Most of these people didnt even KNOW they were in a contract until they tried to cancel.
DTV is very predatory in their "contracts" it takes something but a simple Yes, or even as I heard in some cases paying your first bill to be obligated to one to two years of service and 9 times out of 10 people are not TOLD they are agreeing to a contract.
so please, before you say someone signed something, remember there are some companies out there that will not disclose information (aka, give a written contract) and will sign you up for years of service without you knowing. DTV has TONS of complaints for this exact reason.

You signed a contract therefore you must abide by said contract period.

Absolutely not....you won't pay them??

You really need to read your contract before going off the deep end.
It isn't DirecTV's fault that your new location doesn't have a clear signal path and the HOA won't allow yard installation.
The cancellation fee is to cover their costs of installing your system at your previous address...you did read the contract before you signed it.....didn't you? O-o-o-p-s...looks like not.
After all that, sorry about your bad experience.
