I have been a DirecTV customer for several years, I am now going thru a rough patch financially. Thru no fault of my own I can only pay my most important bills like utilities, rent.etc. I explained this to a representative over the phone that I won't be able to make any payments until I get caught up. I was told thank you ma'm I won't bother you again. My service was turned off. I had the understanding that I was having the service turned back on when I sent the back payment. Well I found out by mistake that they tried to withdraw 236.04 from my debit account. It was declined because I didn't have enough, I called the company to find out what was going on, and explain to them that I still considered myself to be a customer and that I have every intention of paying my back payment. I was told pretty much "tough you can have your service back when you pay 236.04 "I cannot afford this !! I feel like I'm being strong armed, I couldn't afford the back payment now this? Can they do this? How do they keep customers if they can't work with them?

calling in to suspend services won't work at this point as you have a balance on your acct. we can only suspend services if the acct has a zero balance. if you allow the payments to go past due, you will be disconnected until the balance is paid in full.

It may too late for this, but call them back & tell them that you want to suspend your service, not cancel. Then work out a plan to pay the back balance. You won't have any tv service, but it will keep your bill from adding up. Even though the service is off, they may still be billing you for future months, especially if you are in a contract still. If you are close to the local network towers, you may consider an off-air antenna so you can at least watch the local stations.
